Re: Our truck big blocks......4 bolt mains??
I'm gonna go with 2 bolt. I'm almost positive my 71 402 was a two bolt main

No if you're referring to light duty trucks 1/2 and 3/4 ton. Only high performance cars, those with the large square port heads got 4 bolt blocks. The heavy duty trucks with tall decks may have had 4 bolt mains but I think most of those were two bolt also.

The only 396/402 engines with 4 bolt mains were the L78 Corvette and Z16 Chevelle motors. All of the C-10 trucks were 2 bolt main bearing engines.

Re: Our truck big blocks......4 bolt mains??
As has been said countless times ... don't get yourself all bunched up over stock 4-bolt set ups. Unless the outer bolts are splayed, there is little to no advantage.

Re: Our truck big blocks......4 bolt mains??
While on this topic, what about the crank shaft? I recently rebuilt a 1972 402 out of a C-20 (was told it was the original, but I don't think it was) and when I pulled the crank and dropped it off at the machine shop, the guy looked at me and asked what the crank came out of? It was forged steel, cross drilled and hardened? He said most cranks he cuts from that generation are cast
