1987 Full Wire Harness

It seems that the majority of repro or replacement harnesses stop at 1982. I realize things got a bit more complex after, and the 80s were a bad time for any manufacturer electrically, but is there anyone making wire harnesses for these trucks? It seems the previous owner took a few too many liberties with wiring and I'd like to start fresh.

Issues:
1. Headlights - both technically work, only one to proper brightness, and no brights. (I believe part of this was a conversion to an earlier grill/lighting setup? It has single headlights)
2. Turnsignals in front seem to not work, worse when headlights are on
3. Cigarette lighter completely not there, and wires were just left bare behind, until I capped them off
4. Dome light only comes on via passenger door switch
5. Cargo light doesnt work (might be bulb here, just haven't checked)
6. Tail lights - Brake lights work sometimes, reverse lights on one side, tail lights not so much. - wiring is all spliced and fumbled with...

Just seems re doing about all of it would be my best solution...

I just got a complete wiring harness for my 85 C10 from hot rod wires. I bought the basic 12 circuit system for my specific application, but they have different options. You may try calling them and seeing if they have something that will fit your needs.

I have an 87' also that I restored and faced the same dilemma. I ended up taking the complete harness out of an 89' Suburban. The burb harness was in pretty good shape, but there were a handful of areas that I had to fix by soldering on new plugs etc. I put new loom over everything and put it in the truck. It was all plug and play and worked great. I think this route is easier and cheaper than buying a kit. The kits are expensive and you still have to put on all the factory plugs.

Was the surburban harness something you were able to pull yourself or how did you get it?

I pulled my 88 out for my 78,it came out fairly complete

Ok, I guess if I had to pull it at a junk yard, would it be reasonable to think this could be done there? Or do yards typically pull a harness for you at all? (sorry, this is the oldest vehicle I've worked on)

Cheaper if you can, might be a nicer " pull" since you care
And you can see where it goes and get clips /screws the yard might just drop on the floor

Yea thats true....just seems like a pretty time consuming job to do at a pull a part yard.

Stock harness just sounds like a headache and you run the risk of having some unknown issue come up. I paid just under 300 for my harness and its all labeled and color coded.
