Cab stand questions

I'm looking into making a cab stand that can be used to work on (welding and sandblasting) and paint the cab on. I would like to use this one on a few other projects down the road so I wanted a metal frame. I know I have seen a ton of cool one in different builds on the forum. I found some specs for the base. What I would like to know is if anyone that has made one would have done anything different. In talking with a friend he told me he would have liked it to be shorter and have locking casters and all the casters would swivel. Any one have any pic's they would like to share?

Attached is the pic I found with specs for the holes in the floor of the cab.

Re: Cab stand questions

Found this caster. Looks like it would hold up for a long time.

Re: Cab stand questions

I cut up a wrecked (front frame horn bent) long box frame. I cut it just in front of the front cab mounts and just behind the trailing arm cross member. welded on some casters and welded a piece of random tubing between the frame rails to support the frame in the area of the front cab mounts. Works great. I can also easily pick up the cab with a forklift, because the trailing arm crossmember keeps the cab from hitting the forklift.

I had been thinking about something like that but as it stands I don't have a frame to cut up. I might be putting too much effort into something like this I just wanted to make a nice shop tool that I know I will use for years to come.

Re: Cab stand questions

This is one that my son-in-law built for us from those same measurements. It has the Industrial size casters with locks and is extremely stable and maneuverable. He used some discarded 4" metal tubing from his company. I think you can get the casters at Tractor Supply or Harbor Freight if you have a store in your area. We haven't bolted the cab to it yet, but I am confident that this is the way to go. We will drill the mounting holes once we set the cab onto it to make sure it is a perfect fit.

I hope this helps.
