Hey all! Since the defrost in my truck was not working I decided to rip out my heater core a replace it. Well long story short 2 dead mice and a nest later the heater box and all the components were cleaned out! Unfortunately I have hit a snag. The replacement heater core is the newer aluminum and is a tad bigger than the original clamps that held the last one in place. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement copper/brass heater core or am I stuck with fabricating some brackets? I did put the aluminum one in but I do not like the idea of it just sitting in the housing and not clamped down.

My local Rad Shop can get good repros that will mount in properly

Thanks LockDoc, I have tried my local parts suppliers but they have also switched to the aluminum ones. I am gonna check the local rad shops and see if maybe they can get one.

I found an old style copper one that had been on the shelf many years at Advance Auto. Keep calling around until you find one.

Last I knew pickmups had a "low mileage" Harrison copper heater core. May try and contact him here on the board

I have the same issue should I do the LMC one ??? I don't have an idea what eckers? is here in phoenix.

I got mine at the local Napa. It looked to be copper. It wasn't an exact match for the original, but it was close enough to use the straps to secure it. I had to grind about an eighth inch off the points of two of the sheet metal screws that secured the straps that held the core in place. ( The replacement core was a bit thinner than the original.) The points of the screws were bottoming out against the tank of the heater core & I thought over time it might pierce the tank. The Napa tank cost about $30. The local radiator shop wanted about $50 for a replacement. (They wouldn't do a recore.) Having heat has been wonderful!

I have has to work with the Orileys one a bit but was able to make them work.

I had not heard of Eckler's either but here is the website http://www.ecklerstrucks.com/. I ordered one from Ecklers’s Trucks because I called Advance, Oreilly, AutoZone and NAPA locally and they all had the aluminum heater core. The Eckler's one was more expensive but if it is copper/brass then I think it will be worth it. I'll post pics when it comes in and let you know how it fits.

I purchased my truck with the heater parts in a separate box. Does the 5/8" or 3/4" gent mounted on the top? Then I guess it would be self explanatory which one gets mounted to the Water Pump huh?
