Used parts
Well I guess it's costing me a little since I used used parts. Took the truck over to transmission shop today to findout what was leaking. wasn't the pan gasket! The wire connector that houses all the wiring is leaking. They think the tailshaft bushing is bad also. You can push the drive shaft up and down.
New wiring, bushing going to cost about $400.00 for everything. They had to order the wiring connector so I have to take it back on top of that.

Re: Used parts
Damn that's rough. I'm having a few problems with my 4l80 as well, just haven't had the time (or weather) to really check it out. The pan gaskets aren't replaced every time you change fluid like old transmissions so I imagine you'd have to really bugger it up for it to leak.

Re: Used parts
I guess I'm shouldn't complain to bad. that pretty good I guess considering it all was a used unit. I just hope they can stop the leaking. I just wonder if you can tighten the connection up and stop it are put some kind of sealer on it.

Re: Used parts
I'm in the same spot. Bought it completely used and just replaced the u-joint, and changed fluid. It makes a pretty rough noise when shifting from drive to park, and seems to shift pretty damn hard.

Re: Used parts
Mine is shifting fine so far. I haven't noticed anything on the shifting. I just don't like leaks.

Re: Used parts
The side-connector leak is a known-4l80e problem. It really should be something we encourage people to service, but the truth is it rarely gets "announced". People chase down pan gasket leaks for months before looking to the connector. Because it leaks THROUGH the actual packing on the connector, the viscous fluid can make an electric circuit, and you get wacky stuff happening. Its the culprit for random trans codes or getting limp-moded if it goes out all together.
I'd tell you to do the harness yourself, but I guess if you gotta have the bearings done, it makes less sense.
