positive camber disc brake?

Hi all;
I need a little help. I had my truck 64 c10 converted to disc brakes using -
1998 spindles and 81 lower control arms. Recommended on this site. the problem is my camber is out 2.2 degrees, any one no the problem, and how I can fix it?-
I know I can use 73-87 spindles, but I have to get lots of other part to change over. will 71- 72 spindles be easier and less work/$ only need upper ball joint, but newer calipers will not fit. want to stay 6 lug. I am pretty sure the spindle is the problem!

Thanks

Re: positive camber disc brake?

Did you have it aligned or do you have your own camber gauge? How thick are the shim stacks? Are both sides equally 2.2? Do you know what it was before the swap?

Re: positive camber disc brake?

Welcome to the forum Mark

Glad to see you were able to get registered.

As for changing to the '71-'72 spindles or the '73-'87, the only difference in cost that I can think of is the extra cost for the '71-'72 uper balljoint. You will have to change the lower control arm back to a C10 arm and then change the balljoints to the correct ones for the spindles used. Then there will be the tierods to deal with.

Since it sounds like you have everything together right now, it may be easier and cheaper to figure out how to fix the camber issue. Would it be possible for you to post a pic of the upper control arm bolted up, so we can have a visual of what you have?

Do you have any idea on what that 2.2 degrees would amount to in a measurement at the upper control arm shaft?

Re: positive camber disc brake?

To my knowledge, no one has an answer to this issue yet. I have seen 2 other members with this same issue, but no response as to a fix. I just do not have the time to make this conversion on my Suburban, so I do not have an answer for the OP.

The OP told me that all the shims are removed. I assume that he had an alignment done, but I did not ask that specifically.

Re: positive camber disc brake?

I have switched to 79 hd 1/2 ton of a van, seams to work just need to be aligned ! - and get after market 6 lug rotors.;- This project has been a nightmare.--- If you put info on here ,make sure it is correct!!!
I also see the bad info is still on here. cost me $$$$$$
Some one should take it down!.:

Have 89-98 3/4 ton 6 lug rotors and spindles, with backing plates, new bearings and seals for sale. Also so have lower control arms off 81 3/4 ton, all have been blasted and powder coated.Have new brake pads too, no calipers. $ 225 for all. this does not include what it cost me for powder coating.
Thanks!!!...

Re: positive camber disc brake?

I don't think the 88 and up swap has ever gotten worked out. Using the 73 to 87 C10 parts is well documented and well sorted. Hope the van stuff works out.

Re: positive camber disc brake?

The full size vans use the same spindle as the '73-'87 C10 pickups, Suburbans and 2wd K5 Blazers.

Re: positive camber disc brake?

Glad to see the 88-98 spindle issue come to the forefront.
Just because the parts bolt together doesn't mean it's correct.

Use conversion 60-62, or 63-70 spindles and drop spindles,... Or use 71-72 and 73-87 spindles or drop spindles on these trucks.
If you want 6-lug rotors, buy aftermarket rotors.
It's easy now.
30-40 years ago it wasn't.
