Dome and cargo lights

My dome and cargo lights aren't working. Was checking the door switch and when pulled there is no wire to it. I took the panel off and found out you can't get to the switch area from inside the truck. One look at the inside fender wells and I decided to get help.

Can I drill a hole into the fender area from the panel that holds the hood latch and manage to wire it from there? Not sure how to get the wire to the switch that way.

Is there an aftermarket product that dispenses with that door switch? I suppose I could mount a LED light you turn on manually but that defeats the purpose of the lights coming on when I open the door.

If all else fails then I suppose I'll have to pull my wheel and the fender wells and do it correctly. Hopefully there is wiring there although I suspect I'll still have to run new wiring.

Thanks.

Re: Dome and cargo lights

I believe it enters the side up in the dash area. You should be able to pull the rubber grommet, snake a piece of wire from the entry hole to the switch hole and then re-pull your dome switch wire thru and reconnect it.

Re: Dome and cargo lights

Thanks guys. There's nothing like taking a simple problem and complicating the heck out of it. I assume the cargo light runs thru the cab and off the dome light.

Re: Dome and cargo lights

I can't speak for the cargo light but I assumed it ran down the rear of cab out and under the sill plate next to the door seal much like the dome lamp wiring does.
