LT1in a 57. alternator wiring help needed
I installed a LT1/4L60E, in a 57 3100. The engine runs strong and I'm buttoning up the remaining issues and readying the truck for paint. I researched online on wiring up the alternator, and learned that I need to run a 12 volt switched positive lead to the alternator, to the exciter. This "turns on" the alternator. I read that the wire needed a 470ohm in line resistor. I went to radio shack and bought a 470 ohm resistor. Not knowing which "watt" to buy, 1 watt or 1/2 watt, I bought both. I soldered in a 1 watt resistor. The plug from the original wiring harness has only 2 brown wires. I could only find online that the "L" terminal was to have the 12 volts with resistance. I did that and have no charge from the alternator. I'll remove it and have it tested, just to make sure it works, and rule out a bad alternator. But I believe it will test okay.
Has anyone out there had any experience with this? I would really appreciate some instruction and advice. Pictures would be amazing. Thanks in advance. Jason

Re: LT1in a 57. alternator wiring help needed
There is info on the net for hooking up those alternators. You can probably finding it by putting the model of the alternator in a search.
Here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=157126er Several links here : http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=144477 I think you are pretty well on the right track from what I read on those pages. A guy sold me a CS130 at a yard sale for 3 bucks with a bracket on it so I'm interested in how they hook up. I didn't need the bracket so it goes in the swap meet box as I am not sure what engine it goes on.
