What will fit for power brakes?
I have a '69 c10 that's all drum. I'm changing over to power front disc. What donor truck will work for this as far as booster, mc, p-valve and brackets are concerned? I figure if I can pull them off of one at the junkyard even if they are bad at least I'd have a core and might come out money ahead.
Will a 73-87 work? anything newer? If I could find a '71 or 72 in the junkyard I wouldn't be asking this. |

Re: What will fit for power brakes?
Not really sure what works from other years so i cant help with that but im in the same boat and im going with the mcgaughys 6 lug disc kit..i havent decided what im going to use for a brake booster yet..probably one of their 9".
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mmc-63157/overview/ can be had a little cheaper from amazon or other retailers. gotta use their spindles though. Last edited by Drewski23; 03-11-2014 at 05:53 PM. |

Re: What will fit for power brakes?
I dont think anything else from a donor truck will just bolt right on as far as boosters go. Theyre akways on sale here on the board though

Visit
Classic performance products http://www.classicperform.com/Catalo...vy-Truck.htm#1 click on big brake kits, then click on tech articles and then you'll find an article how to swap 73-87 C10 disc brakes. I did it and I'm not a mechanic just a fan who wants to learn, Good Luck |

Re: What will fit for power brakes?
i would go to napa and buy a booster for your year, you might have to get a bracket or push rod somewhere else but it might save you some bucks

Re: What will fit for power brakes?
1985 silverado i have done it on my 69 take everything off direct swap a arms tie rods everything
you need to use your 69 u-bolts there a diff size then the 85 for the bottom a arm and get a coupling nut for the booster arm going to the peddle (hardware store 2 bucks maybe less) take the pop valve from the 85 as well and your good to go i did mine in about 2 hours |

Re: What will fit for power brakes?
I already have power steering. My guess is the same 87 blazer was used that was used for the 350/350 and wheels. Are any spacers or anything needed if I swap complete crossmember? I have no idea if the steering box was changed or just a ps pump added. Not sure if ithat's even possible with the old steering box. I know very little about how "power" stuff works. Cables and rods pushing and pulling I do ok with.

Re: What will fit for power brakes?
you dont need the hole crossmember all you need to do is undo the 2 bolts on the upper a-arm and undo the 2 u-bolt on the bottom a-arm undo the link on the steering box undo the sway bar undo brake lines and slide it out from under truck and slide under your truck as for the booster it bolts right up to your fire wall it has 6 bolt hole but i just cut the top 2 off the rod on the booster is a tad short but can be rigged up to work but like i said a coupling nut will fix it i will take some more pics today and post later

Re: What will fit for power brakes?
didnt have to cut grind drill make anything to make it work only thing i did was change the wear parts with new one just bought stuff like ball joints tie rods etc but replaced that stuff after the swap was done except the ball joints easyer on the table than on the truck

Re: What will fit for power brakes?
The advantage I see to using the whole crossmember is a chance to get it all cleaned, rebuilt and ready to go all at once.

Re: What will fit for power brakes?
the parts dont connect anywhere on the crossmember and the engine mounts are part of the crossmember and im not sure if the mounts are the same ..

Re: What will fit for power brakes?
Search the board, there's a whole layout about power brake swaps. It answers every question asked in this thread, regarding swaps. Aftermarket brake stuff, that's pretty self- explanatory.
I'd refer to it, but I'm not 'wizard-y' enough. Yet.

Re: What will fit for power brakes?
I've got a 70 k20. with drums all around
found a matching front and rear axle pair out of a 73, the front matched mine perfectly, d 44 5cf just with disc brakes, just pulled everything from the knuckle out, (spindle, and disc backing plates, and hubs, and always the extra hardware) got new rotors, calipers and pads. and you definitely need a DISC master cylinder, from the junker would work if you plan on keeping drums in the rear. if you plan on going disc in the rear, I used a 86 corvette master cylinder, but had to cut about a half inch off the plunger coming out of the booster. so for 4 wheel drive, the 73 worked great for me. |
