Rear mount gas tank
Just looking for some suggestions as to what kit or what way is the best for relocating the tank to between the frame rails.

Re: Rear mount gas tank
This is the one I went with except it was the zinc coated steel version. Worth every penny. I've used them both and this is much better quality than the LMC kit in my opinion. This is a very nice kit and I highly recommend it

I've been giving this some research too, I don't like what I read on the Suburban 20 gallon tank swap due filler neck problems and you have to drop the tank 2" or cut the box cross member.
I think I'm going to splurge on the almost $500 deal |

Re: Rear mount gas tank
I have been looking into this myself, since it is going to be one of the first things that I do. From what I have read the '69 Camaro gas tank is a direct fit. If you also use the sending unit from a '69 Camaro or Firebird you are golden.Score a flip down license plate mount from an old Caprice cop car,Cadillac Fleetwood or Delta 88 and you are done.If you want to make sure you don't have any noise issues from the tank rubbing on the frame rails you can pick up an anti squeak kit that has a few pieces of rubber material that you put along the frame for the tank to set on when you drop it in. I did some checking around and you can find the parts for under $150. Last edited by 72 C20 Fleetside 4WD; 03-15-2014 at 09:22 AM. |

Re: Rear mount gas tank
We did a 2nd Vortec 5.3 conversion in another 68 and used the LMC Suburban tank. We modified it with our own top bulk-head so it uses the GM in tank fuel pump & sender and a Corvette C5 filter / pressure regulator. Tim designed and fabbed an in bed corner fill I really like. When you pull up to a pump you can look over your right shoulder to stop for perfect set-up and when pumping you stand up comfortably leaning on the bed rail.
We're old Hot Rod men so comfort and ease count too.
