1950 3100 in VA
I have been looking for my first project for a long time and finally found it! I wanted something that wasn't too far past my skill level but still a challenge. The truck is in decent shape, especially compared to some of the trucks on this board. I simply don't have the skill for that sort of build yet. I have been lurking on the board for a few months now and wanted to put this build up for everyone to see.
The plans are for a basic build that will keep the budget low as I have an 8 month old and another on the way! SBC 350, 700R4 Transmission, TCI front end, parabolic leaf spring kit in the rear. I want to drop the truck as a whole about 4-5 inches, whitewall tires and "steelie" rims. The intention is for this to be a daily driver so it will have AC and power steering. I would appreciate any suggestions, comments, criticism that anyone would like to give.... The first few pictures are how I got the truck...it ran and drove! Re: 1950 3100 in VA
Here are some more pics. I have been working on the truck for the past 2 months (when I get time off from work) to get it down to the frame. There is a TCI front end and parabolic leaf kit on the way from CA that is supposed to be here next week. I ordered from Jon at Charlotte Rod and Custom, we discussed a few things before I ordered just to be sure I was getting the right stuff.
www.charlotterod.com I replaced a few spots of rust on the floorboard and underneath the A post where it meets the floor. This was my first time so for most of the pieces I flanged the top so it would sit on the existing floor. I punched holes through the top so I would be able to tack weld through through them to the original floor. It's not the prettiest but I figured it would be strong and not bad for it being my first time! The pic at the end is how the truck sits now... The driver is my 8 month old daughter Sophia! The rearend is being sold it is a Eaton HO 52 if anyone wants it...unsure of the gearing. |

It has been a long time and a lot has happened...my daughter is 23 months old and I now have a son who is 6 months. I have been able to make progress on the truck because my family is great and watches the kids while my dad and I work on the truck. The truck was completely dismantled, frame and many other pieces media blasted and coated with Herculiner. Here is some pics...the truck is off to paint as of 2 weeks ago! It will be HOK Sunset Pearl.
