Gas tank install.

Ok I may buy a new gas tank for my 64. It is behind the seat. I may buy a new metal filler neck. I have a new filler hose. It is as stiff as a board. I can hardly get it on my old plastic neck. Has anyone had any problems installing these? I would put an under bed tank in it , but I don't have anyone to help me.

Re: Gas tank install.

I hear assembling the hose and neck onto the tank, installing it from the passenger side moving towards the drivers and using liquid soap to lubricate the body grommet works best. Push the assembled neck through the installed and lubed grommet.

4 ratchet straps over the rafters in a garage will lift the bed with one person to access a rear tank install. I hear Texas is nice this time of year, you buy a round trip and I'll fly out and help

Re: Gas tank install.

If you install a blazer rear tank you do not have to remove the bed, it would be easier buy we mounted mine so it bolts from the bottom of the frame, then you add the straps to support it fully. Here are some pictures. One could also have a aluminum tank built that just fits perfectly and design it to install from the bottom also.

1. Fuel tank blazer 21 gallon crossmember modification so tank does not hang as low.

we later added angle iron braces which bolted to the truck frame and supported the outer bed crossmember. just keep clicking on the arrows and you will see all the tank mods and final installation.

Either keep clicking on the right hand arrow or just go here to see further fuel tank modifications and installation.

The fuel tank hangs down &" below the bottom of the frame:
