New member new 67 short bed

hi,new to the site and this is my first 67-72 Chevy truck,found her on CL in Brownsville TX,caught a flight to Brownsville from Dallas TX where i live,seller met me at airport then drove me to uhaul so i could get a truck and trailer got it followed him back to his house then loaded the truck and back to Dallas i headed in the rain by my self.What was supposed to take 8 hrs took 10 hrs! made it back safe and now for the last two weeks she has been my daily driver.My plan is to throw a ls 6.0 in right now she has a 305 and 3 speed tranny

Welcome to the forum! I would figure out if you want a bed fill location using a Blazer tank or a 69 Camaro tank that has a rear fill position via a flip down license plate. Check this out for some cool reading. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=448431. That will influence the cost as will installing a really cool aluminum one. I am getting ready to move my tank out back also. Have a great weekend.

Ive had these trucks all my life and if you smell gas in the cab you either have a hole in your tank or its not comming from the tank its comming from the engine compartment like if the carb was flooding a little , welcome ! Nice truck too !

Ditto. You shouldn't be smelling gas if everything is right. It is commonly the seal of the sending unit/pickup that needs to be addressed. Changing the tank will require you to have to have the cab repainted, and the paint looks nice on it. Relocating the tank and shaving the filler is a very popular mod for many, but there's probably just as many people who look at that as negative.

Thanks 67-C-30,i defently want to relocate the gas tank, it probably is the sending unit because the gas gage doesnt work but works when i mess with the wire .paint is ok i want to change color anyways.glad i found this site!

Welcome! That truck looks like a score! I'm a fan of the gas tank behind the seat and I'm even running efi, but the extra room you get from moving it is sure a plus though.

Welcome. In some of the pics the truck almost looks gray. Is it a metallic color? Are those some old school billet specialties? Good looking truck

Ya it a metalic black with grey blue specks its a nuce color the guy said it was a acord color,needs a lilttle tlc i never understood why chevy put the gas tank behind the seat

Every manufacturer used to do it. I personally have no problem with them. Over all the years, I've seen tons of newer trucks with saddle tanks in junkyards burned to the ground from being hit in the side and rupturing the fuel tank. I've never seen a truck with an in-cab tank that caught on fire.

Beutiful truck! I beleive Early Classic Enterprises has a replacement/relocation tank kit. However, there shouldnt be any smaell of gas from that tank, Id just do a little detective work to see if it is really coming from the tank and not somewhere else, then fix it. I drove a shortbed for years with a tank just like that and never had an issue.

you guys made rethink moving it at this time, it will be cheaper and easier if i just get a new tank sending unit and gas cap that way i know everything is new!so im going to give it a try.i know the gas cap is a issue, and so is the sending unit might as well change tank too, heres some pics i took today, check out under gas cap,got in my truck after working all day and the gas was seeping out the key hole down between a slit in my paint and it made it bubble and strip so i sanded it sprayed a lil black primer so it wont rust i plan on getting a new paint job this summer i know it looks ugly
