Re: how much room in the cab for us bigger people

dad's 6'4 probably around the same weight and he drove mine home no problem but the gigantic stock manual steering, steering wheel was pushing on his belly. I'm 6'1 and put over 200,000 miles on mine. leg room is more of an issue pushing in the clutch but I don't mind.

Re: how much room in the cab for us bigger people

I'm 6'3 375# and I have a tilt and have it down towards the dash in my 68 GMC with buckets. I have a smaller than stock for the time steering wheel, but one thing you need to remember when you push down the column it takes away a lot of the tilt range. It is the whole lever effect thing I guess. Jim

Re: how much room in the cab for us bigger people

I'm 6'3" and about 420-ish. I put in a Flaming River tilt column and pushed it all the way to the dash, then made up the new steering shaft to match. I have a grant 13" steering wheel. I have 2-3" Between my belly and the wheel. I'd love to find a wheel the same diameter with a lot less dish, because that would open up several more inches for me and make the hand position on the wheel more comfortable. I just haven't found one I like yet.

Some have cut down the stock steering wheel or added a smaller wheel from a later model Chevy
Use search to find the stock wheel resize link

Re: how much room in the cab for us bigger people

Unfortunately this where I have found the "F" word was a bit ahead of GM in a similar year truck. My uncle has a '67 Ford that has TONS of leg room... but it's a goofy a** Ford with absolutely no following whatsoever. People turn a blind eye to him, he's been disowned by the family and is wanted by the police in 3 counties... J/K

Re: how much room in the cab for us bigger people

I'm 6' 2" and 300lbs. I have newer dodge seats in my truck with a smaller wheel. I fit alright but my legs tend to hit the bottom of the wheel. I found out real quick the leg room wasn't what I remembered from whemn I was 16. My truck was a manual and I'm switching over to an auto because I didn't like how I had to move my leg all the time to operate the clutch. I'm thinking of moving my column towards the dash a bit too when I switch to my auto tilt.

6'6" 350. Small steering wheel is a must. i have a tall body with shorter legs for my size, so leg room is good, but my head hits the roof sometimes.

You will fit it just won't be as comfortable as a newer one. I never thought these trucks had much room and see others feel the same way.

I 6'-5" 365lbs I went the extreme building a crew cab to make room head and leg room is most of my problem. I added a spacer to the clutch pedal so it is closer to the floor and about an 1" up from the gas pedal helps.

im confused. im 6'8, truck has no tilt and i have pleantly leg and head room. with the original seat foam crushed down i sink in nice and comfy. the thing i love about this truck is i dont have to straight arm the steering wheel to reach it like SO MANY other vehicles ive "tried" to drive. i can see how a belly might make these trucks hard to fit into though

I have short stubby legs and a long torso. I'm 6'3" with a 30" inseam. Headroom is my biggest issue, especially since the Highliner I put in drops the ceiling about an inch. I do have a belly, so I could NOT comfortably drive the truck if it had the stock wheel and no tilt. My thighs would be rubbing the wheel and so would my stomach.

A lot has to do with how you sit in the truck also. I prefer to sit very erect and not slouch. However, If I slouch a little I have a lot more headroom. I had to get used to having my legs bent and my knees up higher vs sitting in a modern vehicle. It felt a lot more cramped when I first bought the truck than it does now.

I have a recovered stock seat with the original foam still in place and a few repairs under the cover. From what I have heard new foam will really make you sit high.

yea ive got a 40" inseam. i dont fit in hardly any new rig especially to drive. my knees are always in the dash and i cant hardly reach the wheel with the seat all the way back. only thing ive found newish is 98-02 dodge trucks. the dash on them is far enough in i can fit my legs in without the seat all the way back. luckily that happens to be my favorite body style dodge. getting a 02 cummins rig here soon for a work truck

I'm 5'8", 175lbs and I DON'T FIT! My head is close to the ceiling, I wish I could move the seat about 2" back. The brake pedal is the worst, literally have to lift my leg back... keep thinking about cutting it and moving it back...

I've heard the buddy buckets will give you less room than a bench

In my Tundra I have the seat all the way back to fit the pedals comfortably. I do have the telescoping steering wheel, so reach to the wheel is no issue. I have perfect headroom in my truck. The ones with a sunroof drop the roof like over 2 inches, so thats a problem. No sunroof for me.

Re: how much room in the cab for us bigger people

I just pulled my gas tank out of the cab and I am in the process of relocating the tank to the back. This will not give me any more leg room in the cab? Will the seat not go back anymore? Everything is out of the cab right now getting painted this week .I was just curious if there's any more options. Hope I'm not out of line asking since its not my thread but since we are on the subject kinda curious.

Zero. None. The seatback hits the back wall of the cab under the window before it touches the tank area.

That's for the stock bench.

With the tank gone, you may find other seats will go back farther, because you can adjust the backrest to go up straighter, the stock bench has a fixed seatback unless it's a 67, and maybe some 68's folded forward. You may be able to adjust that to sit up straighter?

Re: how much room in the cab for us bigger people

I'm 6'3 and weigh a wopping buck 20 soaking wet lol. I have plenty of room, but leg room isn't really that bad. I got used to it. As for my dad who is 6'2 and almost 350-ish, with all stock interior in my 69 c10, his belly touches and leg room for him is a bit different as apposed to my leg room.

I'll let you know in the future how well I fit after I chop the top, add role bars, and all the other things I need in the darn thing
