67-68 hoods

Hate to ask but don't have time to research in depth.

Are the 67 and 68 hoods identical less the chevy lettering or are they different and just look similar? will they interchange?

Thanks!

68 hoods might have holes for the trim on the nose.

Re: 67-68 hoods

67and68 hoods are the same but are different than the 69-72 hoods. 67-68 hoods will not interchange with the 69-72 hoods.

Re: 67-68 hoods

'67 GMC no trim or letters. '68 (to '72) GMC has letters. That picture above is a '68 with a 71/72 grille. Or,since it's all swapped around,it could be a '67 with a '68 hood because the bumper is either '67 GMC or 67-70 Chevy

Re: 67-68 hoods

If you don't need the trim you can just weld the holes in before painting if your does has the holes.

To my knowledge the truck is all original, I am the second owner. When I bought it 15 years ago, it had 89k miles on it. The only thing I had to do was change out the clutch. Still has the original water and fuel pump on it. This is the truck I spoke about with the 396 'turbo-jet' engine, and the huge holley carb, what ever turbo jet means

Re: 67-68 hoods

You know chevy GM used the term turbo jet on air cleaner decals for many years and you are the first person that I know of that ever asked what it means ? So what does it mean ? I have no idea ? LOL

Re: 67-68 hoods

Couple of my friends that work at the local chevy dealer in the parts dept for the last 30+ years don't know what it means either. They even tried looking through their old books and came up with nothing

It's all marketing. America was introduced to the "jet-age" in the 50's and that's why a lot of styling cues in the 50s and 60s were related to jets, rockets and turbines. Olds had the "Rocket" so Chevy needed something "jetty", hence the Turbo-fire and Turbo-jet, etc...

Yes, they were basically just marketing names. Here's another discussion on the same topic that lists a few more --> http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=425090
