th350 questions

Ok so I have a chance to pick up a th350 for FREE I was just wondering if there was a simple way to identify a PG V. TH350 visually......... I know they are the same length same bolt pattern ect....what I'm wondering is the vacume line in the same spot some numbers I could use to help identify said transmission I've searched and anytime someone asks the obvious is put out there then it's just a bunch of people talking about how they would rather use a 700r4 or this or that and then talking about how they think this is different. Please I'm just looking for someone thats really familiar with the transmissions and can get me an answer that a layperson could understand and spot as I dont wish to bring home parts I can't and don't want to use free or not

Easy way if you are not good at the gm trans is the shape of the pan. There are pics on google for this. But the powerglides have powerglide on the side of them so that also helps.

Thank you for the diagrams and the fact that powerglide is stamped on the case should make this easier thanks for your time and info and while I'm here any opinions on what gear ratio works best with a 350/350 setup for a balance between gas mileage and power 3.55.....3.73...I'm building my truck as a daily but I also dont want my truck not to be able to get out of its own way but I'm not exactly looking to catch scratch at 40 either anyone willing to put their numbers out there and what kind of mileage you're getting

Thanks jimmy and ack I'm heading out shortly to go check out the trans. and I just wanted to say thanks for the quick response and helpful information I'm new around here and lets just say I wasn't having much luck with another forum that will remain nameless but wow are the people that frequent that board something else I'm sure its not all of them cause I recognize a few builds here from there I just must have had bad luck so far all the talk about this board is turing out to be true

th350 is a 3 speed, pg a 2 speed. check the lever positions
