new owner of a 1966 k-20

hello everyone, my name is Evan. My dad bought this truck for me, so that he and I can restore it. We are planning to remove the utility body, and do a frame off restoration. We would like to change out the 6 cylinder engine for small block Chevy and we plan to paint it white with a red interior. We plan on asking a lot of questions becase there is a wealth of information on this website. Thank you in advance for all the help we are going to supply.

Original spiral shocks on the rear. Nice truck to start with and will make you a heck of a truck when it's finished. Course there never finished!
Need more pics by the way, under the hood, front suspension, etc.

_Badaz My Dad said he has done much worse when he restored his 77 Toyota FJ40.
Captain Fab The build sheet says it is a 170 Hp (2?6 engine) does this make any sense to you?
IHA1992 Yes Hamden is not far at all, when you guy's come in the summer we will take you out to dinner at Fishtales in Madison your girlfriend will know this place.

Aerotruk63 I have posted some more pic's My dad is also glad to hear that the rear end has the original shocks in it so thanks for that . My dad also wanted me to tell you that I am 10 years old so we have 6 years to do this project. We were going to remove the utility body this week-end but to much rain so we sprayed the bolts with free all maybe next week-end! Thanks again for all the interest and input it all helps. evan396

WOW! Cool! The engine you have is a 292...170 gross hp and 270 gross pound feet of torque. Its neat that your 10 years old! Not many your age are interested in restoring trucks.

Evan I think it's wonderful that your only 10 and ready to build a truck I think you have an excellent candidate, Now them ole six's are pretty good engines, especially a 292 lot's of torque..I had a 250 six in my 70 Burb
4x4 from factory, that little engine pulled it pretty dang good. Does the engine run. Look forward to seeing your build and post plenty of pictures, we likes

Thank you randy, the engine in there will probably run if we did some work on it. but i think we are going to put a 350 in it. when it stop raining today we went out and unbolted the utility body and took it off. my dad showed me that there was a crack in the rear spring. also there was a small bend in the frame. we can bend that back with a little heat. also it looks like a cab mount is starting to rip, he would like to know if that is replacable, the bracket has rivets to the frame. then it started to rain again and we stop working on it. evan396

I know what your saying about the rain, I don't have a garage so I only get to work on mine whenever the weather is nice. My truck is sittin on a 1970 4x4 frame and running gear, so the mounts are different. I'm sure someone on here can help you with that. I wish you were closer I would definitely come by and check that engine out....

there is a place that rebuilds the cab mounts ( NOT cheap) or get a set of 1/2 ton rear cab frame brackets and use the 1/2 ton mounts that's what I did on my 63 works out great

Hey Evan...I'm actually from Oregon. lol The 350 is a good small block to put in...very cheap to rebuild and have good power. The 292 can be beefed up a lot to.

My dad and i started to take the front end apart today. it looks like it got hit in the front and it had some pretty bad welds on it for a repair job. other than sheet metal i guess it was not to bad. need to replace most of it. we also took off the fenders, my dad said the drivers side might be repairable, but the passenger side was no good. will get to work on it in the morning. evan396

Yep..dents are typical on an old truck. Specially a farm truck...mines a good example. lol.

Looks good man. Welcome to the forum. Its great to see someone of your generation interested in an old truck. Most are in their rooms playing video games.

I saw in one of your shots you still have all of the original e brake assembly. Most are tossed when the original transmission is taken out. What trans are you going to run?
