That's my guess too, but the "hook" part is missing.

Top hole is factory and usually has a plug in it and the small hole has been added for what ever!

Re: Anybody no what these holes are for

I have owned 3 of these trucks. 2 '68s (GMC and Chevy) and a '71 GMC which I currently drive. They all had these holes. I would guess judging from the size of the holes and the fact that there is a threaded "pal" nut welded to the inside, that GM left a provision for shoulder harnesses.
The federal safety equipment requirements on pickups always lagged behind that of passenger cars and apparently GM did not want to be forced to redesign the cab to accommodate them.

Re: Anybody no what these holes are for

The small hole probably accommodated a peg or bent tab on the shoulder harness "box" to keep it upright.

Good old GM-Perfect for a trucker to hang his suit there. Think it would block the view a little? You could hang an air freshener maybe.

Re: Anybody no what these holes are for

What about a jacket, overalls or work coat? 12" or less off that side window isn't much obstruction.

You're right. I think I read though that these hooks were for hangers but I can buy the overalls and even a ball cap!

Maybe this will make it easier. This is a clothes hanger:

This is a clothes hanger in a Chevy truck, hanging from a hook:

Re: Anybody no what these holes are for

I hang an old MA-1 jacket there, in case the weather suddenly turns cold or wet. Without a wire hanger the jacket hangs down inside the width of the B Pillar and does not obscure visibility.
I used a junk yard sun visor clip for a hook. Works great.

Re: Anybody no what these holes are for

On the over the shoulder belts, the retracter mount has a little pin that keeps it from rotating. It goes in that hole and the mounting bolt goes in the large threaded hole.

I'm digging the gun rack! This was common in the day. I remember several of my friends had these pickups with gun racks and they used them for their intended purpose. Wasn't uncommon to see a them with a gun in them, in the school parking lot. And believe it or not, no one got shot.

How times have changed.

Re: Anybody no what these holes are for

I remember I had a gun in my truck at school and during school one day I took the principal out to see a 40 acres I bought bordering the game reserve. We went to show him where it was so he could hunt on it. Nothing was ever said when he got in the truck and had to move the gun to get in.

Re: Anybody no what these holes are for

my oldest brother shot two trucks, one in the cab corner riding down the road flicking the safety back and forth and the other through the right floor board putting the "empty"gun in the truck
