Trouble getting my 63 inline to start
Replaced the coil but It still doesn't start. It will turn over until the battery dies. Doesnt chug or stutter. Im and amateur when it comes to electrical and ignition. Can any on give me some trouble shooting ideas to try?

Pull #1 plug wire off have someone crank it over to see if you have spark arching from wire. Check rotor button and points. Also did it run before coil swap?

I agree with what has been said..also make sure your points are clean and the plugs are in good shape. Are you getting fuel to the carb? Have you tried starting fluid?

Re: Trouble getting my 63 inline to start
I had a similar issue that turned out to be a collapsed paper fuel filter in my carb-Rochester B on a 230. I don't use paper fuel filters any more.

Gotta have spark and gotta have fuel. Check spark like he said and if you do have it check fuel flow. Start there and work your way back. I had the same issue but it was my fuel pump. Do you have a clear fuel filter? You can see if there is gas there. Or pull the line off and disconnect the coil and crank it a bit to see if gas is flowing through the line.

Re: Trouble getting my 63 inline to start
Also I will add..make sure your carb fuel bowl isn't stuck. You find your engine will start and then die..usually from a stuck bowl.

Re: Trouble getting my 63 inline to start
Pour a shot glass size amount of gas down the carb, If it fires you have a fuel problem if not check spark. If not spark see if your points are opening and closing and if you have power to the points.
