Isn't the trans the same except the cover that goes over the tail shaft?

Ok so I do need a harness even if I use the one from the donor truck? What about oil pan? Do I need to change that?

Re: need help ls swap with trans
Yes, you still need the harness from the donor truck...depending on the year you may need a lot more...what year is the donor truck?...from the research I've done the oil pan should be fine (I'm not a pro but my oil pan worked on my swap...and haven't seen any issues on the c10's either), check out my post a lot of the questions your asking I've already asked...just click my profile and click on my post a lot of members have already answered and been waaaay helpful, sometimes it's hard to search and navigate here on this forum...and this site loves pics!

Re: need help ls swap with trans
The donor truck is 2005 silverado z71 with a 5.3 but every thing I would need for the swap is there. I'll post some pics this week when i take it apart.

Re: need help ls swap with trans
make sure you take it apart somewhat carefully, I've been told and seen that a lot of guys cut the tac harness, make sure you don't cut it...i had to buy a tac module and pedal, but didn't have a harness (I'm new to the LS platform) and thought the wiring was in the harness...so i had to buy one

Re: need help ls swap with trans
Yeah to change a 4wd trans to a 2wd will take pretty much a rebuild. As far as what the trans is worth it depends which one it is and how many miles are on it.It could go for 50 bucks to 300 maybe more just depends on a lot and where you live.As far as replacing it get the same one it could be a 4l60 or a 4l80 figure out which one you have first.

Worse case you can use your existing transmission.. need a spacer for flexplate and drill different holes to bolt up converter will need a electronic speed sensor tho

Re: need help ls swap with trans
Agree! But worse case you can make it work.. I'm sure a junkyard 2wd trans isn't expensive tho being its cali and you can actually find 2wd transmissions unlike here in maine where everything is 4wd lol
