Repairing Fiber Optics, 72 Blazer. Anyone Know How?

A couple of my GM's, the Blazer and my 70 El Camino SS use fiber optics for certain lighting. The automatic Blazers have one running from a dash light up the shift column to light the gear indicator. The El Camino uses a pretty cool one that runs from the float in the WW bottle to a little indicator under my dash. The bobber in the bottle has red & green. When it's got plenty of fluid, green shows and low shows red.

Anyone know if there's a fix or if replacements are available?

I haven't found a supplier yet that even has any knowledge of their existence!

Next: Rust removal on my Blazer.
Thinking of putting a 50 Chevy cab on a 76 Chev 4 WD pickup.

American Autowire has some good techs that may be able to help you troubleshoot the issue and recommend replacements.

The cable for the Blazer column should be easily had by posting a WTB on the pickup parts board. Good luck in the search. Pete

The shift indicator optic is a reproduced truck part.
Not sure where to find an Elky fiber. Try over at the Team Chevelle forum. www.chevelles.com

Fiber optics in general breakdown over time as the individual fibers break becomming progressively dimmer. GM had a big problem trying to keep up the lamp monitoring fibers used in 69 on the Camaro and 'vette as examples. Being wrapped in to the harness they were difficult to service and spliced repairs made the individual optic bundles much dimmer.
