66 short in Australia
gday...starting a build thread after lurking for a while.building a 66 short fleetside, small window here in Australia.i have been mainly into drag's for years, but last project is a daily driver and truck will be too.bought truck before xmas and have been working on it over summer.here it is when i got it.truck came from Idaho 9 years ago,has had 2 other owners in that time.2nd guy repaired floor's,had new side glass cut and purchased new door/window seals.cleaned untreated weldswith vinegar, than wire wheeled area, then treated with fish oil.

Re: 66 short in Australia
radiator support panel was ok for rust..bit beat up on drivers side where it meets inner guard, maybe small collision some time?.....painted in satin black also.moved onto guards/fenders.truck came with an extra pair of guards...so picked best 2 out.had to repair bottom of pass side including brace, but not too bad.pretty clean on the inside..both guards had a good coat of black than green primer/paint that seemed to protect thembit of filler to straighten them outthan into epoxy[IMG][IMG][IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG]

Re: 66 short in Australia
have collected a few bits for truck also.have a set of 15x8 blazer wheels with centre caps and dress rims, speedway motors ram horns, got a 1960 Buick airfilter and a pair of script Chevrolet valve covers.under bonnet inspired by Delmo and Dino.truck will be small block/t700...keep 12 bolt rear.left hand drive is legal here if vehicle is more than 30 years old..but must remain pretty stock..including drum brakes!i have been chasing a set for a while and think i have a couple of leads now..previous owner had put Australian stubs and 5 stud dics/calipers onto front..weather is changing here..start of autumn/fall already so getting cooler and can expect a bit of rain.try to get bonnet stripped and epoxy this week..then start on cab.no rust repair to speek of,but a few dents, mainly on the roof from farm use.as long as we get a month/6 weeks of decent weather, painting will be ok.if it gets too cold,i will concentrate on the chassis.couple pics of my other carsdaily driver was my last project..1974 holden HQ..ls1&4l60e.colour is original called sunburst gold.the HQ model was the highest selling car in Australia..avaliable in 4 door sedan, wagon, panelvan, ute and 2 door monaro's.drag car i am halves with my brother..1983 commodre..750hp BBC/glide 9.7's on 1/4mile...currently getting new front halve after brush with concrete wall.cheers

Re: 66 short in Australia
You're doing some really nice work, Buzz! I really like your HQ. It reminds me a lot of our '70 Chevelles we have over here in the States. The color (Sunburst Gold) looks a lot like the original color my '71 Camaro Rally Sport had originally, which was called Placer Gold. Does your color have metallic in it? They had two versions in the States, one was metallic and the other was a solid.

Re: 66 short in Australia
Is it just me, or was anyone else bummed as hell when they realized that the Mad Max movies were about him, and not the "Last of the V8 Interceptors" ???
I didnt care so much for the trails Max went thru, I cried for the car.... Sadly that movie and its sequel really put in my mind that Australia had the nads for hot cars !!! Good to see you guys living up to that perception

Re: 66 short in Australia
You're doing some nice work.......of course it is no surprise looking at your other rides.
It is ironic that I am reading about a truck being built in Australia, that came from Idaho

Re: 66 short in Australia
I like what you are doing with your truck.
I am an aussie living in the USA (for 10 years), I have a 65 C10 project, as well as a ton of other ridiculous stuff in my garage. Is it difficult to buy paint and primer in Oz? I seem to recall it was hard to buy pro stuff if you did not have a business but please forgive me if I am wrong - it has been a long time since I lived there..... I need to move back soon so my wife and children can gain their citizenship's before the kids get too old. |

Re: 66 short in Australia
If you can seam seal it, I would.
