Electric fan?

I had a quick question,its about to get hot here in Dallas and my 67 is my daily driver and it has the original fan with no fan shroud.will adding a single or double electric fan cool it down enough? Just don't want to have to fork out 4 to 500 for a aluminum radiator that comes with the fans..thanks

I have not looked in the last little while but I got an aluminum radiator for less than $200 for my 67 I think the fan will help ? But not sure on the hottest of days if it will be enough ,,,,

Just get a shroud. That will make the biggest difference.

Everyone wants good things for a little price. The radiator and fan are the major supporters of that pricey thing under your hood (The engine). I would spend the most money on protecting that engine and less on other goodies, if it is in my house. Nothing more pitiful, than a good looking hot rod or truck sitting on the side of the road belching out water. I run electric fans on my trucks and with the dual fans and the electronic fan controllers, I have a better cooling setup and it warms up better in the colder months. I also save some fuel by taking that load off of the engine, which ultimately gives a little amount of torque increase.

I got a thick two core rad from summit racing 160 bucks and a junkyard 16 inch fan. My sbc has no cooling issues.

Just to clarify...a fan without a shroud is similar to an impeller without a pump housing. Taking off the shroud is a sure way to get overheating issues. These trucks ran in hot weather as built, so the system design is good. Not saying there isn't better, but a good fitting shroud should keep you moving.

Thanks for the comments guys i guess ill get me a new radiator with the electric fans i sure ass hell dint need to be stuck on the side if the road lol.i heard that becool brand is the best but damn ones with the fans are mucho$$$....or maybe ill just see a a shroud will help first

It's your money, but if your radiator is good, why replace it and why buy electric fans? Your truck won't overheat with a shroud and a clutch fan unless there's something else wrong anyway.

I ran the truck fan and shroud for over 20 years with no problems with AC. Buy a correct shourd for the truck. Then take foam and place it around the openings on the outter edges of it and the radiator support. This forces the air through the radiator and it will cool better if the air is directed through it than around it.

Just buy a shroud is my op. the can be had new so i think it would still be cheaper than new rad, fans, etc. I like the mechanical side of the original clutch fan much more reliable than an anything electric to me.

I've got a flex a lite electronic controller with two black magic puller fans and I love it. You couldn't give me one of those crappy belt fans with shrouds. That controller is progressive and only turns on one fan at a time and starts it off at 50% power on one fan at whatever temp you set it at then goes to 100% on one fan then progressively turns the other fan on as you get hotter so you draw as few amps as possible. Fan Controller is a Flex A Lite 31174 or 31173. one has a screw in temp sensor. Once you get rid of that big junky shroud and fan you will never go back.

The main thing when going electric is to get good electric fans. You have to be careful buying generic auto parts store fans, sometimes they just don't draw enough air. I ran into that problem before.

I'm on the fence on one or two electric fans. I think that one BIG fan cools better, when you have two smaller ones, I think you get some air turbulence in some situations and it doesn't cool as good. The advantage to two however is if one goes out, you still have one. You can also control the amount of air flow if you wire them to separate.

I bought a set of electric fans from Jegs. I think they are Derale brand. I have them set up so one comes at 190, second one at 205, with 2 separate adjustable thermostats. High 90's, sitting in traffic with the AC on, it will seldom get to the 205 setting. I have a factory style 4-core radiator. The fans needed a tiny bit of the plastic shroud trimmed to fit the radiator. Otherwise it was a very easy install.

NJ is NOT the same as Texas weather, but I have no issues at all with this setup. Aluminum radiator is not required.

I did this about 2 years ago and it has worked great. Of course it only hits 100 degrees rarely here, but I don't think it would have any problems with 110.

Mechanical fans NEVER blow a fuze and leave you stranded

Yes, you are correct that they never blow a fuse, but the clutch can give out and even grenade on mechanical...been there.
Whatever your preference, the shroud is the key to making it work efficiently.

Thanks, but I'll keep it. I promise you that it gets a lot hotter here than where you live. When it's 115* out, and you're sitting in traffic above 140* asphalt with your A/C going, You'll want a "big junky" fan. Also elec. fans put a huge demand on charging systems.

So your only running a fan shroud and stock fan? In Vegas??????
