spark issue mystery on 84 chev

Hi everybody having an issue with a 1984 chev truck it has no spark when in the cranking position but when the ignition switch is released it has spark i was thinking maybe the starter solenoid wire but not sure any help would be great thank you

That's most likely a problem with the ignition switch. The "IGN 1" terminal (pink wire) should have power in both the "RUN" and "START" positions. It sounds like your switch is no longer powering that terminal in the "START" position.

The starter solenoid wire connects (through the neutral safety switch) to the "SOL" terminal. That terminal only has power in the "START" position and is only used to crank the engine ... it doesn't feed power to the ignition system.
