Shipping truck quotes ?

Ok,so i have been looking to have a truck shipped from Colorado to New jersey.
Roughly 2200 miles.I cant afford to use a big name carrier,so i called a friend who works in the trucking industry to point me in the direction of a couple smaller auto transport companys. She did and i recieved my quotes today.

One transport company wants $3.00 a mile. $6,600.00

Gets better.Another company wanted $5.00 a mile. $11,000.00
Yes you read that correct.

Did i wake up in bizzaro world today ?

Re: Shipping truck quotes ?

well here in Utah diesel fuel is knocking on 4.00 gal , most of the local freighters are a t 2.50 to 3.00 a mile one way , check and see if someone can work it in as a back haul at a discount , or put it on the bib boards like uship or bidship , maybe they will get in a war like on t.v. best of luck

Re: Shipping truck quotes ?

I used:

Roy
Transport Time
770-359-8400
www.transporttime.com

who is basically a broker and I got his info from one of the shipping threads, I forget if its on this forum or not. Mine arrived with the only problem being the cylinders that lift the top deck of the car haulers leaked down the side of the truck (in primer). To be fair I was so excited to see the truck I didnt push the issue with the drivers and Roy never replied to my VM about it. He did have good communication coordinating and confirming dates. So I guess take your chances on anything but top-notch covered haulers. I did open carrier and with a 4 day arrival window which was Idaho>Illinois and it was $900.

Re: Shipping truck quotes ?

You could always jump on a plane and drive her home and that would be cheaper than shipping.

Re: Shipping truck quotes ?

I just shipped my Blazer and Cheyenne from Fort Myers, FL to Kansas City. Shipping for both was $1500 on an open transport. I used UShip.

Re: Shipping truck quotes ?

I feel your pain. I have a 72 Blazer up in Vermont and want to ship it to Houston Tx. I am going through a broker but having a hard time getting anyone to pick it up. I am getting ready to fly up and take a long ride back.

Re: Shipping truck quotes ?

Try freightquote.com

They work with eBay to ship big stuff. You give them information, then they send it out to different freight companies which bid and compete for the lowest bid.

Basically like the kayak.com of shipping.

http://www.dasautoshippers.com/

They have a place to pick up your vehicle in Linden. Worth a shot. You need a bunch of info to secure a quote.

Re: Shipping truck quotes ?

Thanks for the info guys.

I'am starting to think i should just fly out and drive it home !

I'am just shocked at these prices between carriers.

I shipped a longbed 4x4, 4 door truck from coast to coast 2 years ago and it didnt even cost me $3k.(and i used reliable carriers.)

Re: Shipping truck quotes ?

I used these guys to ship from Utah to Upstate NY.

Nancy Stark
Progressive Auto Carriers LLC
239-324-0430 - DIRECT TO MY DESK
NancyStark@PACarriers.com

Cost $890 and everything worked out great. Communication was a little lax though. The driver told me that he didn't work for PAC, they just set him up. Once the pick-up happens, they kind of wash their hands of you and you just deal with the driver. he was a good guy and gave me his cell# and he called with updates as the truck got closer.

Loaded

Delivered
