Reverse eye main leaf

Hi folks,

I am still looking at how I am going to lower my truck progressively and thought I had my plan set to start on this. I was going to get new reverse eye main leafs for both sides, and then remove a couple leaves. I bought a couple old leaf spring packs to do the work to so that I could leave the originals as is. When I got them shipped and opened the box, I noticed something that I was not expecting. It seems as though at the back end of the front springs, the second (from the top) leaf wraps around the eye of the first.
This causes an issue for my plan to simply replace the main leaf with a reversed eye main leaf.

I looked all over and didn't see anything really on what ppl have done in the past for his so I was wondering if I could get some insight from the board.

Do I simply cut the second leaf near the aft end at the same spot that the fore part of the leaf stops and scrap the part that goes around the eye, and then put my reverse eye main leaf in? Can I circumvent this second leaf eye another way? I would prefer to leave the second leaf in the pack, or should I consider making it one of the leafs I remove?

I believe that is wha you will have to do. You will also have to take the grinder to the front lip of the spring mount so the reversed spring doesn't rub on it.

Just grind and round it off enough to clear the spring if it needs it at all.

I have a second series so they are down as opposed to up so should be ok right?

UMM, if you look real close that frame is sitting upside down on saw horses.

I noticed on a site today that one outfits lowering leaf springs have one eye up and one reversed .

Put it in place, see if it will work without any mods and go from there but now you know what to look at.

Great thanks mr48chev, I appreciate the help. Gonna take the extra spring packs to the spring shop and see what they can do for me.

If you have it apart I'd try bolting up a main leaf in the reversed eye position just to see what I was up against.

The spring shop can take some of the arch out of the springs (correctly) and let you lower the truck a bit too.

What was the point of the reverse? I' thought you hade to swap the bushings too?

For me the reverse was to get me lower... not sure if that is what you were asking?

Reversing the eyes on the main leaf of springs on hot rods or customs with leaf springs is one of the common ways of lowering a vehicle a bit.

Normally it is done by taking the spring pack apart and reversing the arch the main leaf so that when you put the spring back together the eyes are up rather than down and lower the vehicle a bit.

With these trucks replacing the bushing and pins/bolts is pretty much a matter of course if they have any miles on them even if they have been faithfully greased every thousand miles.

I thought you meant turning them around . I lightly heard off this to correct how the read end sits in the wells after swapping to a 3" rear end
