Doing body work and have question about shape of doors
I've finally got to the point on my 65 C10 that its time to do the finishing body work and I started to block sand the doors and I noticed that the front edge of both doors roll inward.
I placed a straight edge across the door and it's flat except for the front, the front edge rolls in about an 1/8 inch over a 1 inch span. The finder and door match up perfect at the top of the fender but the finder is proud of the door for most of the way down. Both doors seam to be the same. Is this the way the truck was original built? Thanks |

Re: Doing body work and have question about shape of doors
That's the way they were built. It's a ton of work to straighten that out to get the panels dead flush/flat, but it is possible.

They were made that way so that the fender and door wouldn't rub. If you do straighten them just make sure you have a good enough fender to door gap to clear each other. Nothing piss ya off faster then to get it all painted and open the door and chip the fresh paint!

Re: Doing body work and have question about shape of doors
That was the way my 61 C10 was as well.
It's a fairly easy fix by dollying out the doors and fenders seperately. I did that to mine, pulled the doors off and dollied them out so that they would be just past the fenders. Then, rehung the doors and dollied them flush with the fender. A little body filler and they were straight. Time consuming, but worth it.... Also, my door skins were pregnant. Shrunk those as well so that the straight edge was flush against the skin from the back of the door all the way to the fron fender. Tom

Re: Doing body work and have question about shape of doors
Perfect timing on this thread; I just starting blocking my 64 doors and noticed the same issue with the door edges........I guess I just saved myself lots of time leaving the edges as is.

The assy. manual gives actual specs for the front edge of the doors.

Astro...
Nice work on those doors. Door seams look good too, your hard work shows. Tom
