Broken Cam, Need some resto help - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

So I broke the cam in my 216 the other day. It was knocking when I bought it and I knew it was only a matter of time. I dropped the engine off at the machine shop to get a quote on rebuilding. My question is where can I get the original color paint for the engine? I was told it was Blue Gray, My engine is a 1951 3100 and has never been out or painted. The color I am seeing is like a silver almost white? Also I will be adding an original Inner line oil canister on the engine. What color was that painted? And did that canister have any decals on it? Last question, what color was the header manifold painted?

Gray is what truck engines would've been painted.

I've heard of guys using Ford Gray too, I guess it's a close match. As long as you don't have any hold-up using something that says Ford on it.

The later GMC's used GM Blue.

The Car 235's used Chevy blue.

Alot of guys paint their engines the Chevy or GMC blue, they like it better.

From what I understand, the "old Ford Blue" is a close match also.

I guess it depends on your taste and if you want an authentic restoration.

Stovebolt.com is more stock oriented. Jim Carter is one of the oldest as after market places and has lots of historical information.

I want to paint my 68 292 a proper gray to have it look like a hopped up earlier engine rather than a later engine stuffed in there to those who aren't paying all that much attention or aren't that knowledgeable.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
