71 k20 frame

So I'm trying to put a k20 together and I bought three of em to get enough parts to do this

Truck one was the start - frame x members were torched out for a dump body so that frame was no good but I got a lot of other good parts from it - wide white steelies chrome front bumper outer renders grille front and rear ends good full dash with no holes +++

Truck two good frame rear bumper spicer hubs bench seat a rough but rebuildable cab + a bunch of small parts bed was shot sold the motor

Truck three spicer hubs ton of interior parts shift knobs possible trans and case - I was hoping the wooden bed was going to be in better shape but it's junk the cab floor is wasted motor turns over but couldn't get it to fire good spark but carb is locked up

So here is the dilemma the frame on truck 3 is decent -not real decent but pretty ok - but I don't need it. do I cut it up and scrap it or try to sell it I'm not asking wiw just what to do with it. These trucks are getting rarer by the minute up here in ct so I really would rather preserve the frame but don't have the space for it but don't wanna make the wrong decision without checking in here first

Re: 71 k20 frame

When I parted my truck I listed everything on craigslist. Threw out prices and some I thought were too high. I figured if the stuff sold for more than I could get from the scrap then I made out well. Sounds like you have a good start with your pile of parts though. Good luck.

Re: 71 k20 frame

Please do not cut up a k20 frame !

Instead,
Take a nice summer trip to the "Wonderful jersey shore" and drop it off at my house

Worth a shot

Someone will snatch that up pretty quick in these parts.
You should have no problem selling it.Good luck.

Re: 71 k20 frame

I cut a '72K20 frame up years ago because the truck was used for way too many winters as a plow truck, and in the summer the previous owner used to take the truck to Rehoboth Delaware and use it to drive out on the beach to fish. That frame was beyond repair, that's the only reason I scrapped it. I did get a bunch of good parts from that truck, but the frame was shot. Like mentioned previously, take pics and list it for sale.

Re: 71 k20 frame

This brings me to a question not really relavent to you selling your parts, but is a k20 frame any different than a k10 frame in that year

No, the frames are the same for 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton.

This isn't entirely true. the outside dimension is the same and all the parts are the same, the same but the 3/4 uses a slightly thicker material.

Re: 71 k20 frame

Ok the reason I asked this question is to try to determine why the body mount cushions are different for c10 and c20 or k models. 20 series mounts are way thicker than 10 series trucks and I did not think there was any difference in frame cab mounts or the body. Anybody have an answer as to what the difference is?

Re: 71 k20 frame

all 20 and 30 series, and all K trucks, so any truck that wasn't a 2wd half ton (C10) has the same body bushing. the 2wd 10 series trucks have a different rear cab mount on the frame if i remember correctly. they use a thinner rear cab mount. the bed has no appreciable mount, just a piece of rubber in between the bed and the frame, maybe not even, i dont remember.

the cabs are interchangable. the difference is in the mounting pad on the framerail.

I have wondered this myself and have found threads that tell me:

1/2 frames are 10 gauge
3/4 frames are 7 gauge
1 ton frames are 4 gauge
