73-87 4x4 engine crossmember clearance issues w/LSX swaps
I've look around this forum and even the Internet in general for an answer or solution this LS swap clearance swap. I've got an '82 K10 4x4 with a swapped in LS6 and 4L60E. I've tried moving the entire drivetrain/engine back and forth to mess around with clearance but this is the best I could come up with.
If you're good with your eyes you can see I've even gone to what I think is the extreme of "notching" off one of the engine block towers on the driver's side of the engine. I'm lookinng to see if you guys have dealt with this or have found a solution. To add to this I'm using the dirty dingo mounts with OE clamshell style mounts. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance. |

Is yours lifted? Did you remember to lower the tranny?

Re: 73-87 4x4 engine crossmember clearance issues w/LSX swaps
It is slightly lifted. If anything it's got a conservative 3" lift, if not factory height. I'm not sure I'm catching your drift or where you're going with this T-case/tranny drop talk.
Since I've had it I have not messed with suspension at all. It sits as I bought minus the LS swap additions. |

When you lift your truck 4 or six inches, your suppose to drop the tranny a little bit, it helps save the u-joints, here in a minute I'll upload a pic for you, mine are not what comes in the kit, I made them

Don't get me wrong, I've had lifted vehicles in the past, even two that I myself have installed the lift kit on. I understand the geometry part of all the driveshafts/U-joints and what not, but I'm asking about engine crossmember clearance. It might make a bit of sense to drop the trans crossmember by adding spacers and making a teeter-totter effect on the front part of the engine, but I'm looking to see of anyone has done something else to relieve ENGINE crossmember clearance issues. Thanks for your input btw. I appreciate it. |

cut a notch out of both sides carefully, flip em upside down and side to side
weld em in, call it a day (or rather 2-3 hours) |

Re: 73-87 4x4 engine crossmember clearance issues w/LSX swaps
wish i could claim credit for it, but my buddy had to do something similar to his engine perches to run some headers made for a NNBS truck. that was on a '72 though.

Mine was similar, but it's a 71 and I only had to do the passenger side.
