I'm trying to do as good a job as I can on a low budget
Oddly enough, it was parked so my old man could repair the rad leak...and I thought...since it's just sitting here I may as well start the body work (it had been all of a day :p) That was two weeks ago...the rad still hasn't been checked, no point until the body is done |

I got some more done, but it's been slow, so damn hot here the last couple weeks
By the way, does anyone have any tips for getting the box off, it's rusted on there good and I NEED to get it off to finish welding the cab corners. Oh and this last one was my dad's purchase yesterday morning (Click for a bigger picture) Last edited by Gibble; 03-01-2004 at 12:17 PM. |

thanks baron I wish I had time to work on it.
But I want to get the truck done. And man am I tired. We got the box off after much struggling. Of the 8 bolts, 3 cooperated, 2 had to be decapitated, and the other 3 we had to tack weld the tops so they wouldn't spin, then after getting the nut off, we just ground off the tacks. A real PITA. So now the box is suspended in the garage just above the truck, it would be in the other spot, but obviously the mustang gets dibs on that :p My old man said he'd buy me some doors the repairs on mine were half asses and not working out well, but I am on a tight budget so he's going to get em for me...I'm still in shock! So the cab corners are now all welded in, and I'm sort of cleaning up the frame, I don't have time to get all the rust off, but I'm getting all the loose stuff and the majority off, then I'll toss some Undercoating on. I know it won't last long but it beats doing nothing. |

I HATE OLD BOLTS
Twisted3 of the 4 seatbelt bolts in half taking them out...now I have to try and drill them out and rethread the holes with larger bolts....ugh. Oh well, my interior should be ready to prime this evening |

I provided a link a few posts ago, but I'll write down what I did.
I just dremmeled them out so that they were deep holes and a little wider, about finger width were I could, bigger if I had too because of loose material, etc. Then spray in expanding foam, get a really sharp knife and trim the excess foam off after it hardens. Get the dremmel out again, and grind the foam down so it's about 1/8" below the height of the dash. Then get some plastic body filler...I used some UV reactive stuff so I could work with it as long as I needed then just set it in the sun for a few minutes and it hardened. Then sand the dash smooth. If needed add more filler, sand, fill, sand, etc... Spray on rockerguard for texture. And paint whatever colour you want. I am in the sand/fill/sand/fill stage still though... |

I did some more to the truck...
My freshly painted front grill Ain't she perty sitting in place...the parts around her are a mess still or not installed :p ...whats that sitting to the left? Very little done to the motor...other than the painted air filter cover... It's a dump truck??? New gas tank (left) and the truck bed hanging above the frame... Not enough time or money, I'm trying to get it ready to paint before it's too cold. We're painting it ourselves and the garage ain't heated...still...after 17 years.

I had an '85 that looked about as bad as your beginning product. You've obviously put alot of time into that truck. The one I had needed more than some body work. The 4.3 Vortec wasn't running at 255 horses anymore.

So I've gotten more done,
We also painted the box, tailgate, hood, and doors...but I haven't got pictures of them yet...heh I'm a tease :p Unfortunately, like I knew, the black shows EVERY imperfection, the driver side of the box is...sub par to say the least, but I'll probably just wetsand and see how it ends up...and live with it until I can by a new bedside. I can't stress it enough...make sure your body work is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT when painting anything black...even spots that felt perfect, and looked perfect, and where invisible with primer still show up with the black paint And I figured a pic of the trucks rear was in order :p ...I really got to get that dual exhaust put on!
