Finally got a 72 Jimmy

Been trying to convince a buddy to sell me this for years. he finally agreed. hopefully driving it home to Denver in a few weeks. Mostly Original except for the new rockers that were installed a few years ago.

One quick question; Does the roll bar look stock? I see other pics with a different shaped one. wondering if there were differences between the years?

Plans are new paint. Original color, interior freshen up and engine detail. Will be my second "daily driver".

Very nice Jimmy! It will be a great driver for you and it looks like you could drive it anywhere. I have a yellow '70 Jimmy but it is that little darker shade and a black top. Back in the 70's, 80's and 90's Mom made many trips to Denver to visit my sisters who still live in that area with the Jimmy. It's under a rebuild right now.

Mine doesn't have a roll bar so I can't be of much help with your question, but I think it would be listed on your SPID if it was original to the truck.

Welcome from the Black Hills. Looking foreward to more pics and updates!

I'm not 100 percent certain, but I believe all the roll bars were either dealer-installed or aftermarket. The roll bar isn't listed in the 1972 sales brochure I have.

Yep, GM never produced a factory roll bar. These are all aftermarket or custom jobs and styles vary. Congrats on the Jimmy!

Nice score man!
When you get it back to Denver, we'll have to meet up and cruise!

Roll bars are aftermarket. Hickey enterprises built
Many of them and were dealer installed.

Thanks for the info on the roll bars. I'm sure I'll have tons more questions about the Jimmy once I get it back home.

Re: Finally got a 72 Jimmy

It will be good to have another jimmy in the metro area.I have seen two orchre jimmys in the wheat ridge area on the road and a real nice on by 2nd and federal so thats good to see more around.I don't see a whole lot of blazers and jimmys around but i see em though.Im fairly sure i have the only 1969-72 blazer with the camper on the road not counting the one that just sold on ebay.good luck with the project.

Re: Finally got a 72 Jimmy

That is the Smittybuilt style roll bar. I have one in my truck that I bought and installed in '89. I added the front leg cage kit, but had to cut it out when I put the softtop on the truck.

Re: Finally got a 72 Jimmy

I couldn't help but notice the "Invader" valve cover decals. Invader was a company that produced Marine engines (They "Marinized" or in other words, prepared factory GM (and perhaps also chrysler and Ford) crate engines for marine use). Did that motor come out of a boat, by chance?

Re: Finally got a 72 Jimmy

I really have no idea. Got it from a friend who bought it from original owner 10 years ago. The truck appeared to be pretty stock and came from New Mexico. No chance those valve covers or engine are original with that decal huh?

Re: Finally got a 72 Jimmy

Read in the gmc truck section that invader 350 was used for gmc engines so maybe it is the original motor???

Re: Finally got a 72 Jimmy

either way the script on those valve covers are very 1970's, i love em!
Nice truck, congrats on finally wearing your friend out and getting him to sell you his truck! I have been working on getting a project Model A for about 6 years, I think he is almost ready to get rid of it, persistence pays off!
Enjoy the Jimmy! and keep us posted in the "proects" section as you move forward!
