Oil pressure problems...

First off yes I checked and used the search tool. I am having oil pressure issues. The motor has about 1000 miles or so on it. Its the 235.5. While driving it is running about 40 psi and unless I gear down and run out the gear before I stop she loses oil pressure. On start up she has about 20 and at any other idle she is normal. The only time I have issues is when I am driving and push in the clutch and dont run the gea down.

It sounds like the crankshaft thrust main bearing has excessive clearance, you might try grabbing the harmonic balancer/pulley and see if you can move the crankshaft back and forth (front to back) by hand.

First, not to doubt, are you sure it is a 235? That is an earlier era block. IIRC the 6 cyl engines available were 250 or 292 (chevy), GMC had others. Does your engine have a spin on oil filter?

The 235 is a low pressure block and 20-40 are very normal.

What does 'running the gear down' mean?

It doesn't have any type oil filter spin on or cartridge. I will double check but I am pretty sure its a 235.5 Running down the gear means using the gear to slow myself instead of using brakes .

Do you lose oil pressure turning corners, braking, or accelerating? The reason I ask is because I have a '67 with a 454 in it and the oil pressure is good unless I am turning corners, braking, or accelerating, then it loses oil pressure. I think the screen may have fallen off of the oil pump pickup tube. If I put an extra quart of oil in it it doesn't lose pressure no matter how I drive it. Just something else to consider....

I am going to drop the pan on mine to check it out this next week.
