Porter built steering

Ok I have a 63 currently awaiting for the arrival of an EXTREME dropmber. I found a link saying I need 3 steering joints and a heim for support and another saying I can run 2 and no support Heim. So from real world experience WTH do I need?? I found "kits" bit I'm trying to get this thing in on a budget and am trying to collect I can from swap meets and eBay. Thanks in advance.

That pic does not look like the extreme dropmember. I got the steeing kit from PB, only 2 joints.

Re: Porter built steering

In the pics above, that looks like an OEM crossmember, with CPP tubular arms and a rack and pinion conversion.

To the OP, I'd give Porterbuilt a call and get the skinny on what you will need. There are a few trucks in the 'Projects and Builds' section with dropmemners. You might be able to see what others have done by looking over there.

Re: Porter built steering

Nate and team will hook you up with what you need... but in truth it's exactly what you see here in that picture - essentially the two knuckles and new piece of bar that goes between them.

Re: Porter built steering

Yes it is not the PB crossmember. But the rack is still I the same spot. I just happened to take these for reference for my truck.

The rack on an Extreme Dropmember truck is higher up in the chassis.
With a stock steering column you can get away with 2 joints.
The Mild and Touring Dropmembers will require 3.

Re: Porter built steering

That sure looks like two joints. I know about the c-notch I have a dropmember and just helped my neighbor weld in the notches. Sorry for the inconvenience. It seems I'm the only one with pictures of steering linkage. It's still in the same position. Yes the rack will fit higher. And its not a 60-66 frame it is 67 to 72 frame. And no headers or other stuff that gets in the way. Like its that hard to figure the shaft will be less than 2" shorter.
