POL Tubular mounts on big block

If you've ever searched the forum for fitment on a big block swap, you'll find numerous threads with info on using factory style mounts. You'll also find that the factory bbc mounts are shaped to accommodate the exhaust and set the engine back about 1.5 inches. From almost every swap thread and pictures on Google I could find, the mount brackets were set to the "front" holes for firewall clearance, while sacrificing space between the water pump pulley and radiator.

After reading about POL's tubular mounts, I found that they actually set the motor forward slightly for clearance on hei motors. So I started to wonder if this could allow me to use the rear holes (6 cyl mount location) with good clearance. I looked everywhere for threads on anyone using the rear holes with aftermarket mounts, but couldn't find enough info or pics.

So I bought POL's tubular mounts, which have an attractive price when compared to buying OEM bbc mounts. First off I will say that these look and feel very durable and I have complete confidence they will last the life of the truck. They were also much easier to install and they look great. After trying to mount the rear holes, I found that the passenger side clears, but the driver side rubs on the firewall. I will admit I love the "tucked" look of the motor, however I will be using the front mount location to avoid any massaging to the firewall.

So here are a couple pics to provide closure on the fitment, in case any other guys out there are pondering the same questions...

Here's a link to some photos of mine. I'm running Hedman 69170 headers. I didn't use either position and made my own which will require some firewall modification but not much.

cool thanks for the pics, I was just thinking that It would be possible to move the mounts forward about and inch or so. It would be much more convenient to have the extra space for electric fans.

No prob. I'm running a fat core radiator and a short water pump and have 4 1/4" between the core and the snout on the water pump.

I went with a fat core rad as well, I bought the HD cooling rad. What fan setup do you have?

I'm running two of these 13" fans. This is the cheapest I could find them. Jegs was like an extra 65 per fan.
I haven't built my shroud yet but combined it should be over 3000 cfm. The shroud will be about an inch deep. The fans are deep in the center(fan motor) but paired up side by side there will be plenty of clearance where it's just the plastic grill.
