Is there a 5 spd tranny that will swap into an 82?
Currently I am running an inline 6 292 with a 4 speed on the floor. The engine revs up kind of high when doing freeway driving. Do they make a 5 speed tranny that I can swap mines out with. If so, what years and models can I use?
Thanks!

I have asked and looked around for a nice 5-speed with an overdrive. You could get one out of a newer truck and get it to work, but it may not be what you want.
The 6-speed (1386-000-011MS) on the second link is what you really want, but $$$ is the problem All kinds or different trans: http://www.motivegear.com/tech_info/...nny_guide.html 6-speed: http://www.standardtransmission.com/ http://www.standardtransmission.com/BW_T-56.html

nrgflow, if its winding up too much on the highway you might consider changing your rear gears. what do you have now?

I am assuming a granny 4 speed, so I would suggest an NV4500 out of a 88-up 1TON. It would require a hydraulic setup most likely.

Yes, I have a granny 4 speed. I am not sure about the rear gears. Can you tell by the number of bolts on the rear?
So what would it entail to convert to a hydraulic clutch setup?

no you cant tell by the bolts, would have to check the tap on the diff cover but its most likely not there. you could pull the cover and count the teeth or support the truck and turn the rear tires once, and see how many times the drive shaft turns (just over 3.5 times would be something close to 3:73) my truck has no problem on the highway.. it has 3.08s and 31" tires. but if i had say 4.88s it would wind up and only go about 60mph. and extra gear (trans) is always nice, but a rear gear swap might be a tab cheaper!

As for a hydraulic clutch, you will most likely need the pedal assembly, resevior, linkage, bellhousing, slave cylinder, etc. If you could find a donor truck it would simplify it. I think 1984 was the first year offered. You can usually find them on 3/4T-up trucks also.
