2wd to 4wd conversion.
Hey guys I recently picked up a 84 1/2 ton 2wd. I wanna make it a 4wd. I also got a 86 suburban(junk) 4wd with 10" lift. I wanna take everything off suburban and put it on 2wd. I'm sure its possible. Can I get some info and tips. Thanks in advance.

Because of the differences in the frames It would be much easier and less aggravating to just mount the truck body on the suburban frame. Its really not at all worth the effort to convert a 2wd truck to 4wd without swapping the frame.

Thanks cable guy..... The truck is strictly gonna be a mud blogger. I also thought it would be better to just put the truck on the suburban frame. I can just cut and weld then

What axles are in the suburban and how big are the tires you want to run ?Putting the truck body on a suburban frame is a bigger job then needed.To do the swap its all bolt on but its a long list of parts,The front you need the engine crossmember the whole front suspension spring hangers and all.The trans t case and trans crossmember you need a high hump trans tunnel in the cab.The rear same thing whole suspension spring hangers and all.The front driveshaft the rear would have to be made.The exhaust will have to be changed out also.

A body swap is relatively simple. Especially when compared to setting up the front suspension from scratch since the 2wd frame is different than a 4wd and the factory stuff wont work. Im not seeing the difficulty in a body swap especially in the same year range. The front clip is the same. Welding a couple body mounts is a ton simpler than re-engineering the entire suspension and crossmembers.

But the suburban frame past the front doors is different then a pickup and longer then a short bed.He would have to shorten the frame and weld on the back cab mounts and bed mounts.Then run a new rear brake line and a fuel line and the brake light wiring.
