Re: my new 69 LB

Got her back to my friends shop and got a few nice surprises. It has Power steering and front disk brakes. The brakes are not power though. Paid $1100.00 for her, going to try to get her to start this weekend. The person I bought it from said they put a new ignition switch in and now it won't turn over. Its been sitting for over a year. Might just get lucky and play with some wires. She claims it was running great before they tried to change then ignition switch. Got the bench seat for it also. She is a bit rough but is a good start.

Re: my new 69 LB

Got the engine code off it, 3970010 SB 307 out of a 1969 Camaro Z28. They have the starter held up with one bole and a piece of wood! Clearly the wrong starter. Can't decide if I want to leave that engine in it and get a correct engine. It has double hump heads. have the correct starter coming tomorrow.
Pictures later today.

Re: my new 69 LB

If it were me I'd ignore everything else for now (except brakes and check the steering) and just get the engine compartment detailed up and back to stock.

It looks like whomever owned before was not, let us say, a master mechanic. I think you have about two dozen nightmares waiting to happen under there.

Odds are you need a heater core (I presume that's why the hose is looped over) at the same time.

For now (again, this is free advice, take it for what its worth) as long as its not smoking I'd keep that original engine and just spend the time returning the whole underhood to stock. Get rid of ALL of the Chinese chrome. NAPA is your friend - factory hoses, filters, and so on. If it were me I'd toss that manifold and carb and put a Q-Jet and factory intake on it, but if it runs well enough so be it.

Factory radiator. Factory clutch fan. Factory shroud. All of that. Then a factory tuneup with new wires and other consumables.

Why am I harping on this? Because when you're done, you'll be able to trust the thing. It won't break down or catch fire every 40 miles.

More important, though, is you'll be into it max a couple of hundred dollars in parts (except maybe the cooling system). It's all labor. So all you're spending is your time and you'll get a huge reward in return.

Hi dave
Thats my thoughts, Im not building a show truck, just want something that is going to start and keep going down the road. Im not much of a chrome guy anyways. I want more function than anything. Looks like some redneck wrenching took place to me.
