What's, quieter?

Dynomax super turbo or Magnaflow? We're talking 14" oval case mufflers here. Anybody know?

Re: What's, quieter?

Going to depend on the motor and what size pipe in and out and how much pipe after the muffler and if a H pipe is used and what tip if anu is used. But I have heard both and to me they are close with the dynomax just a little more quiet but there is a lot that makes the system that can affect the final sound.

Re: What's, quieter?

Thanks PG, a friend of mine is wanting a quieter sound on his '63. He's going to go ramhorns with 2" pipe on a stock 350. Dual pipes nothing fancy, exiting before the rear wheel.

Re: What's, quieter?

I've had them both several times over the years. Apples to apples, the Super Turbo is quieter than the Magnaflow.

Re: What's, quieter?

Running it over the rear axle and out the back will help a little also.

Re: What's, quieter?

The Dynomax will be a little quieter throughout the entire rpm range. The Magnaflows are relatively quiet at idle, but come alive when you romp on it. I'm a fan of Magnaflows for a few reasons, namely what I mentioned above, along with the stainless outer case construction and no droning sound at highway speeds like a Flowmaster.

Re: What's, quieter?

Thanks for all the input, just to update you all....I convinced my friend to go with 24" Brockman Mellowtones packed with glass. I hope I lead him the right direction. My hope is the longer pack with the glass will still sound cool but not drown him in resonance like the hollow "coffin shaped" noise blasters that came with his truck. We opted to ditch the headers for some "ramhorns", which we smoothed and polished internally, and are going to run 2" pipe outboard of, the frame rails with the Brockmans under the cab where we will make a 45 degree turn and dump before the rear wheels. I run the same set up as well but use 20" Porter steelpacks and don't have a lot of interior noise under normal driving so hopefully he'll be a few decibels quiter than mine. Anyhow, that's the plan. Here's mine...Any opinions are always welcome.

Re: What's, quieter?

I ran the same Borckman Mellowtones on my 63. Here's the sound clip video I posted on youtube. My truck was small block, ramshorn manifolds, 24 inch Brockmans. 2 inch pipe from manifolds to rear muffler. Sorry about the steam in the video. I took it in the winter.

Re: What's, quieter?

Funny, we actually stumbled accross that very clip on our own running a google on Brockmans. Sounds great. How loud is it inside driving around? Can you have a conversation on a long drive without being hoarse with ringing ears when you reach your destination?

Re: What's, quieter?

Noise was a total non issue at highway speed. Not even on the radar. Easy conversation on your phone at 60 miles per hour if you wanted to.

Re: What's, quieter?

I have Brockman Mellowtones. 36". They exit in front of the rear tires. Running 2.5inch pipes and a 355 motor. I love the sound but it isn't exactly quiet. I have a completely stock interior with no sound dampening though. I don't even have a floor mat.
