Re: 49 grille

I got mine from Wes at Classic Heartbeat. I don't know the actual manufacturer of the part, but the guys at the shop said it fit really nice. I think it looks good on the truck, for sure. I don't have any experience comparing grilles from other vendors, however, so there's no way for me to say anything like 'best.'

Re: 49 grille

Wes only sells the stuff he will use himself in his shop on the trucks he works on. Everything I have bought from him is first rate. I've been to his shop and he keeps a good stock of pieces too.

Re: 49 grille

All the after market grills are made over the pond. But with re-chroming prices out of sight I can buy a new after market one ever 15 years and still come out on top. I have seen new re-chromed ones rust within that time frame. To be honest there are only a hand full of re-chromers that I would trust. I have heard horror stories about certain re-chromers in NC who charged outrageous prices and within a few years the chrome looked terrible. I wish they made SS ones.

Re: 49 grille

I have bought 6 from the Truck shop and never had a problem...even in salt air down at the shore a few times a year.
Just bought one over the weekend.
If you can catch them at a show they drop $30-$40 off catalog price and no shipping.

Re: 49 grille

I got mine from Dynacorn and it fit perfect. I even took it apart and had the non chrome parts painted the same color as the truck, put it back together using SS Button Head screws and nylock nuts and it still fit. I had no idea how many fasteners a grill needs.

Re: 49 grille

Biggest problem we ran into was the quality of the chrome. Bought one from Truck shop and the chrome looked so cheap and dull we took it back. We ended up getting an original re chromed and I think that was the best decision but it did cost a little more.

My problem right now is that I don't have enough straight pieces or close to straight pieces to make up one really good grill to have chromed and the family friends who had the local chrome shop got put out of business years ago. The grill they did for me in 1981 is still shiny but three of the bars are bent because my son who was a teenager at the time backed into it when he went out to go to work one morning.

Re: 49 grille

I bought mine from a friend who is a dealer and uses Dynacorn parts. I paid him $325 for mine. The recommended re-chromers all wanted $1200 - $1500 + me pay for the shipping out and back. For me that was a no brainer. I talked to a lot of people who bought these grills from Dynacorn and was told that they were very good quality and many of them had theirs for over 10 years and they were still the same quality as they were when they were new. I was also warned of companies in my own state not to use because of the poor quality of workmanship.
