Had to share !
Forgive me. but I had to share this with the board. Just finished the install of my new (Jeg's) 260 h.p. Crate motor and 200R4 O/D Transmission all new including copper/brass radiator, Skip White HEI, Edelbrock intake and tranny cooler. Did reuse the Holley Street Avenger, flexplate, exhaust system, mini-starter, and Serpentine set-up (Thanks, Tom.) Runs sweet, drives like stink and the O/D is a gas. Loved being able to pace the traffic on the freeway (75-80 m.p.h.) Will finish break-in and switch to Castrol Synthetic. Best thing, sold the take-out 350 /400 to help re-coup some $$$. It ain't as upscale as some, but it's my D/D and I can't wait to put on the road tomorrow!

Looks good Toby. I like black and red combos. That engine should give you a lot of fun and good milege too.

Looks really nice Robbie and you are going to love having passing power at 75 MPH.
Have fun, Tom

Re: Had to share !
Very well done Toby! I really like the serpentine belt system. Looks sharp! My JEGS/260hp crate motor is still on the stand. I'm interested in how you wired the HEI and what you did with the "R" wire from the starter solenoid? You should see some decent gas mileage with the overdrive transmission. Cool!

Re: Had to share !
awesome! I am working on my Jegs 350 as well... not as far as you. trying to decide if I want to swap the trans... will stick with my 350 for now... would love to go to a 4 speed od trans but I fear that would be more work then it is worth with a 700r being much easier... but I can dream of a world with a 4 or 5 speed manual in my truck.

Re: Had to share !
Nice work on that. I'm really liking the serpentine setup, you don't see those on small blocks every day.
HEI requires only one keyed on 12v power (the existing coil resistor wire cannot be used). The wire from the starter can be eliminated altogether.

Re: Had to share !
Glad you did share! Nice looking motor there. I've thought that if/when the time came, I would go with the same engine/tranny set up.
Let us know how you like driving it. And have fun!

I am really going to have to upgrade the 3.08 gear, though. When the tranny drops into O/D at 65 m.p.h., the r.p.m.'s drop so low it sounds like the engine is going to stall !! I have been looking for a 3.73 gear, but they are hard to find around here. I may just change the 3.08 (posi) gearset. Motive Gear makes a 3.73 or even a 4.10 (thick) gear that will fit on the 3.08 carrier. Gotta regroup on the funds, first. According to the nice lady at Bowtie Overdrive, I can drive around town in third gear as long as the tranny temp is o.k. She said she does the same with her driver. I also am going to build-up another dash with a SpeedHut tach in the center. I have gone thru two "Camaro tachs" and both have died. And you're right Tbone. The looks I getting from the rice rockets when I blow by 'em at 85 m.p.h. is "priceless"..... And by the way, does anyone know of anyone who sells a shift indicator (PRN"O"DLL) that will fit on the '70 column? |

Re: Had to share !
Toby nice job on the motor man digging it!
Buy the speed hut GPS speedometer as well. Then it want matter what gear tire you install on the truck later it will always be right. I love mine.
