Haybarn 66 c10 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

We've had this 66 in a hay barn for the past 20 years, about everytime I've wanted to pull it out and start on it either it's been blocked in by round bells or something has came up. Well last week the hay was moved and I had the time to pick it up. I rounded up 4 rollers and some tools and headed to my dads place.

Loaded up and headed to the house

Finally safe at home!

My plans are to redo the brakes, drop in a motor and trans, slam, round up some missing parts, and drive the wheels off it. I really don't need another project right now but I can't help myself.

I'm guessing the rust isn't too bad, good for you.

Not too bad, a little bit of rust in the floors and a small amount in the cab corners.

I went today and ordered brake parts, I've located a straight six and 3 speed, and I'm shopping for drop springs and shocks. As the exterior goes I want to get the orange off the drivers door and roll it. I'm trying to avoid getting into another major rebuild-restro project.

Thanks! I agree! That's my plan as well, being blocked in the barn with a bunch of round bails definitely saved this one, 10 years ago this truck would have been used for spare parts and it almost was 20 years ago. My dad owned the truck before and traded it to friend,(that's the orange door origin) luckily he traded backed for the truck again but not before the original seat and motor and trans were pulled. To me the original paint/patina movement has saved a lot of these old trucks and cars from becoming scrap.

Thanks man, yeah I'm hoping to get it going soon rather than just throwing money at it. Don't get me wrong I see a lot of super nice cars and trucks out there that I would love to own but I don't have the attention span to go from a truck like this to a truck like some of the super nice ones I see. Hats off to the guys that can but I can't stick to it like that.

Oh yeah it needs it bad, I was thinking about breaking bad on it with some CLR as well.

On my truck I used a mixture of CLR diluted with water and applied it with a soft (non-abrasive) sponge and some elbow grease. Doing it this way I was able to remove the weeping rust without affecting the patina. Afterwards I used a clear wax on it. The patina popped out. The rust went away. The wax catches the light and makes the body panels pop. Here are before and after images:

Nice rescue! Have fun and good choice going with a six shooter. I have a 292 between my fenders backed with 3 on the tree. Love it!

Picked a 6cyl, 3spd, and brake parts Friday, degreased and picked new gaskets and motor mounts Sunday. Hoping to get everything cleaned up and resealed this coming week.

One my dads friends had them, he's got one more that's pretty decent, it's got a couple tears on the sides but the top is pretty good.
