200r4 vs. 700r4
which is better for quality and speed and stuff
i won't be towing, have an occational haul of stuff but not heavy i need better gas mileage (lower rpm at highway) and i want to go faster and get there quicker i have a th-350 so i have the length for the 200r4 andthe mounts for the 700r4 i also want to get the front and rear end out of a c-10, my uncle got a c-10 for free and i'm gonna ask him if i can swap. shoun't that ring and pinion have a lower ratio, cause im sure my c-20 has a ratio for more torque (im guessing)

i didn't vote, but both have strong points and weak points. 200 if you want easy install. 700 if you want to find one quickly

iceman there are 2 board members that have them in there trucks and an old post about this say 2 or 3 weeks ago. the 200 was a 3 speed that had a bad pump then they redesigned it with overdrive. it has a better 1-2 gear then the 700r4 plus they have problems with burning up the aluminum drum from the band engagement but mosst good trans guy know how to make both of these trans work real good. check out the link www.ptsnctb.com they make custom parts for the 2004r to with stand 850 turbo h.p.

It's six of one and a half dozen of the other. I voted 700R4 because that's what I've got.

I say 200 4R. The one - two shift doesn't bog your motor, and they are plentyfull at any junkyard, actually easier to find than the 700.

Put me in the 200R4 box. Have one in my 66.panel with 3.07 rear end, 350 engine, real nice.

i like my 700r4. it shifts like a champ & hop-up/rebuild parts are more common. I dont find the 1-2 shift bogs my motor because I'm running a 2.56 rear end so that low firstgear is all that saves me from being a slug. I'm using the painlesswireing lock-up kit & I've put a B&M shift kit, a highpressure valve, and a corvette 4th gear kickdown valve. The guys are right that a 200 is an easier install but not a huge amount. You can tow with the 700 but they say in third gear. I havnt towed yet but i'd tow on flat ground with a big cooler & a light trailer/load. PM me if ya wanna know more. Good luck

I am going to go with a 200R4 whenever i swap out my Th350 for an OD (several years in the future). Dosent the 200R4 also allow full-throttle upshifts to OD, while the 700R4 dosent?
I think i will be real happy with a 200R4 and 3.42 gears compared to my current Th350 and 3.07 gears ![]()

It is 200-4r
A 700 will allow full throttle upshifts in OD if you install a Corvette servo. Real common mod. Almost any properly built up 700 will have it done to it. |

I vote for the 700r4. I have one from Bowtie Overdrives and I love it. The install was easy. They sell a TV kit that lets you adjust shift points and how hard the shifts are. Mine has a 1 year, unlimited mile warranty. Price really isn't that bad either. Check out www.700r4.com. I have the Stage 3, 2200 torque converter and TV system. The Stage 3 is good for 600 horsepower they say. My only advice is to get a really big RV heat exchanger.
Also if your motor bogs get some more HP. ![]()

Quite a poll going on here but being a trans tech myself, I just look at it like this. How many trucks have any of you guys seen factory equipped with 200's, hmm, and besides don't let anyone kid you the 700 is a tougher tranny if it's built right. Just my humble 2 cents.
