bypass hazard switch? can i do it
hey guys so all my wiring is finally done hooked up my battery and everything works but my turn signals. I'm running a stock column with stock turn signal switch but a after market wiring kit. so I'm thinking its because I don't have the hazard light hooked up. can I bypass it? any suggestions guys thanx

Re: bypass hazard switch? can i do it
stock 57 column or other stock gm column? which wiring kit? usually hazard has a seperate flasher from turn flasher. also if you are running led lights you need led flasher or resistor in the circuit,

Re: bypass hazard switch? can i do it
No problem, I'd just coil the wire (if there is one) that triggers the hazard lights up and tie it up out of sight and out of the way making sure that it couldn't short out and call it good. The older switches didn't have the contacts in them to make all four lights flash at the same time.
Back in the 60's when 4 way flashers started showing up on new cars the aftermarket soon came out with a 4 way switch that you mounted in or under the dash and tied the leads into each turn signal wire, those units had a built in flasher. I put one on my 55 Buick in 1966.

Re: bypass hazard switch? can i do it
that's what I did but guessing because I am running a after market wiring harness its stopping my turn signals from working. I plugged the extra hazard wire into one of my turn signal lights and they worked but it stays on even if the key is off. I worked on it this morning real fast before I left for work but I was hoping to get some ideas before I head home later.

Re: bypass hazard switch? can i do it
These might help if you do not have it. Looks like power goes to the turn flasher then into the signal switch in the column using the yellow wire. In the column it connect supplies power to the brake switch and which ever turn signal circuit is activated. Get out the multimeter and start checking for power from the ignition switch thru the circuits. On your aftermarket set up you might just have a yellow wire coming from the flasher mounted on the fuse panel instead of the switch. My guess is that it might be something in the switch itself, old contact, broken contact. etc. You can test for continuty by connecting one end of the ohm function to the yellow that goes into the switch and the other to the wires coming out.
