Just bought an 88 need help
I just bought an 88 and need some help.
1. I don't have any doom lights, reading lights. I checked at the light itself and there is no power. I looks like orange and white wires. Also it looks like somebody spliced into it I can only guess for the cargo light. I thought I would have a switch for the cargo light by the headlight switch but there is not one. 2. My ac/heater control is acting crazy so I am assuming it is bad so I ordered another one. I assume it is straight forward to replace? 3. My cigarette lighter is not working. Is there a diagram for that? 4. How do I replace the exterior door locks? I ordered some new cylinders and took the door panel off but can't see up in there real well to take the handle off to put the lock cylinder in. Thanks for any help in advance. |

Re: Just bought an 88 need help
Do some of electrical share a common ground? I wonder if it is a ground problem I have. When are the grounds on the truck?

1. The interior lighting might be fused, if I remember right it's under "Courtesy" or "CTSY" in the fuse panel.
2. It's not tooooo terrible to replace. ![]() 3. Could be part of the CTSY circuit, might have it's own, do you have owners manual for layout of fuses? 4. Two bolts hold those handles in, one you can see when you open door; the other you have to get from within the door. Pull door panel (plastic visible one), pull steel regulator panel (inner panel), and with window up you should see other bolt. Yes, you have to completely remove handle to pop the lock cylinder out. When you get it out you'll see the little tang that you depress to release it. To keep window up I suggest two pieces of decently sticky tape, run them up and tape to top of door.

Re: Just bought an 88 need help
The CTSY fuse is fine. I checked it yesterday.
I pulled the control panel out late yesterday and it was pretty easy. Don't have owners manual but they are all labeled. When i posted about the lock I had already pulled the inner and outer panels and removed the bolt in the door face and bolt on the other side of the handle. I could not see up in there real well to see anymore. I guess that is all that was holding it in. I will just start pulling then. |

Re: Just bought an 88 need help
I forgot to mention...unbolt the door latch! It will give you some more wiggle room to get the rod off the handle. It's only the lock rod you'll need to unclip, the rod from exterior handle to latch just pulls straight up out of latch.
I'll see if I can get you a wiring diagram for that light circuit...
