what you guys running for gauges? i got a 04 5.3 (as many of you know lol) and just curious what you guys are running? whats the best way to go? isn't it a simple hook up from the stock senders to the gauge? or is there more to it? looking to order some gauges today after i get done at the post office (gotta return a part)

and since i have a VSS i can use a electrical speedo right?

You can use a digital/electric speedo
Volt gauges hook up as normal.
Fuel gauges hook up as normal but you may need a resistor if the gauge sweep doesn't match the Ohm output from the sending unit.
Oil pressure (analog) hooks right up so any pressure source.
Electric coolant temp and oil temp/pressure sensors may need a different sending units depending on the gauge. Just as with the fuel gauge, the resistance sweep determines compatability.

Thanks man...any advice on what gauges to get? (I went to send out that harness today but we had some nasty weather so I didn't leave the house)

I just put gauges together as I need them. I never feel like spending the $$$ for "matching" sets, since I always need to add a gauge that doesn't exist in that "line".

I had a matching set of Sport Comp gauges, but wanted a different size that that they didn't have. but another company did, so that threw of the "Scheme". Now I only care if its a black face with white numbers....if so, I'm good.

Autometer, Autogage (who is autometers budget line) are of course good gauges. Equus makes some decent ones, but do a little research as some of them are a little cheesy. Stewart warner and Sunpro have offerings as well, its really a balance of budget vs looks.

I used the www.speedhut.com gauges and the GPS speedometer. I love them. The speedo doesn't care what size tire what gear I have it's dead on the mark no matter!

That's what my buddy said, I already have the ecu calibrated for the gears, and for about the price of the speedo I can almost get all the gauges, I really only need the water and oil pressure gauges, but roils like the clean cut look of all matching gauges

You can use all the factory gauges if you don't mind running them off the motor and not the computer. I also bought the ww.scangauge.com and have it mounted in the ash tray opening. It reads straight off the computer. You can clear cods and set the gauges you want with it also.

I used the Scanguage as my speedo and skipped the $500 of extra shiny things in the dash.

I really only have 3 gauges; tach, oil pressure and the scangauge. I have a duplicate voltmeter that just takes up a space I'm saving for a wideband. The Scanguage does the speed, volt, coolant temp, and IAT currently.

There is the Dakota digital VHX stuff also. One of the vendors here had some good pricing on them.

so i got a random question, i went to install my gauges, and the temp sending unit doesn't go in the side of my head (5.3), does anyone know what adapter i can use? PN? or is there a sending unit i can use from another vehicle?
