Front End Donor Canidates

I have a 67 chevy SWB and I want what everyone wants....power disc brakes and power steering......I own a 78 chevy full size van, long wheel base I believe. Will the front end bolt up, or should I find another donor? Also, will the rear end bolt up? That would give me 5 lug all the way around.

The only other parts I'm hunting are a tail gate (and hardware) and a steering column for a automatic tranny (stock is 3 on the tree)

Thanks,

Dustin

Have you tried researching a chassis parts book? You might try to find a friendly parts store and research their catalog for Moog or one of the other aftermarket companies and see if the key stuff like ball joints, tie rod ends, idler and pitman arms crossover from your van to a 73-87 p/u.

Some of the catalogs also give the key dimensions of the parts like diameters, tapers, and splines. I have done this in the past, it's a time consuming process, but it might work. I would also suggest offering to buy the guy a coke when you ask to look at the catalog.

You could also call the parts guy on the phone and ask for the same part for a p/u and a van and see if the part number is the same for both applications. I'm not sure what annoys them the most, asking to look at the catalog yourself or asking about a bajillion parts on the phone or at the counter.

anyone know the difference between a g-series and a p-series van? from the research I have been able to do (ACDELCO's site has helped, you can see what vehicles a particular part will fit) if my van is a g10, the control arms, and ball joints are the same. I'm prolly out of luck if it is a p-series, other than stealing the engine for core. I can't get to the van right now...so the only way I'm gonna find out right now if the parts swap is if my dad happens to have the title so I can get the vin number.

If this works, it may be easier for future projects, to find a van to steal the front end from, kind of a "sleeper" so to speak, since you can prolly find a van cheaper than a pickup at a salvage yard or neighbors yard or whatever, due to popularity at this point
