1967 swb fleetside
I figure I would start and actual build thread for the new poject even before I picked it up. I am picking this up on Thursday for another Father/Son project with my 71' year old father. He used to cruise around in a 72' LWB truck when I was a kid and sold it to by a newer truck. He regrets it to this day. Immediate plans after parking it in his driveway for a few weeks are as follows:
(1) Pull the 350/TH350 trans from the truck and sell it (2) Finish the body work and prime the whole truck in one color (3) Convert to (5) lug all the way around courtesy of donor parts from my old 82' SWB 2wd truck that went to the scrapper (4) Lower the whole truck 3/5 with a C notch in the back (5) Rebuild a 70' 402 BBC and install with a Muncie M20 trans (6) Enjoy some quality time with my Dad during the whole process Here are some pictures as the truck sits today. I have a few more goodies to share once things start showing up at my house. The motor is being dropped off on Weds. Going to keep it " classy " with a set of Cragar S/S wheels. Notice the cowl hood. Looks like someone fabbed it up themselves. I am stoked to do something with this one. The tab on the truck............. $ 500.00!!!!

Re: 1967 swb fleetside
Engine crossmember and rear end out of my old 82' 2wd. I knew this would come in handy some day. I had originally saved it to convert a K5 to 2wd but sold the K5 to fund something else

Re: 1967 swb fleetside
Kind of sucks that I sold my 77' Blazer bucket seats and period correct 67-72 console. I did manage to keep a 77' Blazer console. Me being a good friend, I gave my buddy a set of high backs out of a 90' K5 for free just to get them out of my basement.......... that was before I found this

Re: 1967 swb fleetside
Thank you sir. I try to make it by a couple of times a week to check in on my parents and see how they are doing. This will give me the excuse to stop by more often and get the old man out of the house at the same time

I thouhgt I would add some shot of the 402 that should be showing up at my house in the next couple of days. It is taken apart for a rebuild but is all there. It is a 3955272 block with 3931063 heads

Re: 1967 swb fleetside
Picked up the truck and took it to my buddy's house for storage. He made me an offer and now it is his. Back to the drawing board ..........

Re: 1967 swb fleetside
Project is not dead, just on hold. I am in the process of working out a deal with my buddy to get the parts that I want off the truck and sell him the rest. He is a body man by trade so I know he can fix the rust on the cab (windshield area needs an inner and outer skin). I know all he wants is the frame and the cab with title. The truck was made in Balitmore and where it sits right now is the farthest it has been from its point of origin in 47 years. I basically want the bumpers, front clip, and bed. I have another 67' short bed frame that my buddy Tyler is holding on to for me. I thought to myself: " Self, you will never find another complete truck in this area for this price again "

Re: 1967 swb fleetside
Been slow going as of late and have not had the chance to make it out ot my buddy's shop ot start pulling parts off of the 67'. I may end going wiht the 350 that is currently in the truck to save a little time and money. Also good to have so I can mock it up on the other frame that I am getting to replace the rusty, holey one that sits under my short bed. Easier to mock up my motor / tranny combo without the cab being on. Did it the other way around last time and it turned out to be a chore to say the least..........

Re: 1967 swb fleetside
Day # 1 of stripping that rusty ol' girl for parts. She will be cut up the next go around for the rear and cross members . I am taking the bed apart to see what can be saved. On the trailer is the cowl hood, front clip, 350/TH350 combo, manual tranny drive shaft, front bumper, bench seat, and gas tank. I lost 5 lbs today pulling this apart in the hot Virginia sun......

Re: 1967 swb fleetside
Thanks gdavis. I am trying to make the time but, with the normal life of a married 42 year old man with two kids under the age of 7, time is pretty short.....

Re: 1967 swb fleetside
Spent (4) hours in the gargage last night breaking down the front clip to make some more room. As I figured, the core support is trashed. Time for a new one. Suprisingly, I only had to break out my sawzall for a sort period. Most of the bolts came out easily. The one only ones that gave me some truble where the ones holding the innder fender on. I shot them with a little WD40 last night to soak. I will post up some pictures of the worst rust on the fenders. They can both be saved with some patches. I am going to tray and save the hood as well. Who has the best fitting radiator supports out there? I am thinking about buying one along with some inner fenders from Bill Athey

Re: 1967 swb fleetside
She is all taken apart right now after going under the knife for a couple of weekends. My buddy gave me a hand in the process of taking this apart. Although he is a Ford guy, we have been really good friends for over 30 years. As soon as we were able to drive, we were hitting the junkyards together looking for parts. Definitly hard trying to fit a complete truck in pieces in my one car garage................
