'68 C10 transmissions are you running?

I currently have SM465 in mine and I'm thinking about a 700R4 swap. What is everbody else prefer and why?
Can you tell me some of the pros and cons to the different ones out there. Which ones are direct bolt ons with out modifications, are they easy to find & cost effective etc..

Thank you

Re: '68 C10 transmissions are you running?

I just put a 700R4 in my 68 GMC. I replaced a Saginaw 3 speed. Last Saturday we put about 80 miles on the truck and and used around a 1/4 tank. I got my trans and torque converter from PTC in Muscle Shoals, AL I have about $1700.00 in the swap that is shifter, cables, drive shaft built, and misc odds and ends included.

I like the 700r4,use my truck most everyday and pull my boat with it. It's got a very good low gear and pulls the boat out of the lake great.

With out the boat cruises down the hwy. good in overdrive.

Gas milage is not that great, 16mpg on average, Guess it could be better.

Oh ya it's got a vortech 350 eng.
