upgrading to a type II style pump..

Im in the peocess of swaping out my ps pump to a later model corvette pump with w remote res. It's being mounted on the head oppoaed to down further on the block and being on the head theres not a lot of room to mount the res. Leads me to my question.. if i mount it on the rad support will the pump have enough power to pull the fluid too it or am i going to run it dry..
